Just thought i would post an issue that i have had with my new R&M supercharger GX, purchased from new seven month ago, i completed a tour in Europe and found that the rear pannier rack had suffered significant paint wear, caused by my Ortlieb panniers rubbing on the rear support bars.
i have contacted R&M and their reply was .............
thank you very much for the forwarded pictures.
The damage is, as described by you before, most probably caused by the friction of bike bags.
As we are aware that this can happen under certain circumstances, we included a recommendation, in our bike instruction manual, to secure the contact points with tuffcoat foil.
To prevent further damage, we are happy to provide you tuffcoat foil. This would however need to be delivered to a Riese & Müller specialist of your choice, as we only deliver to our contract partners.
We would also like to advise you to contact your local Riese& Müller bike dealership yourself. There they might be able to cover up some of the patches with finish.
It would be nonetheless, most important to again cover the contact points with foil, after any kind of repairs has been done.
I Have contacted my dealer, who thinks the cover paint job is a non starter, and is working on a better solution ? , i explained to R&M that i previously used Tubus racks and that the paint never rubbed off , and pointed out that they should validate their paint as it appears to be inferior to others, as for how the bike will look with this Tuffcoat foil or any other protection !, would not look good as an advertisement for what is a very expensive E-bike which was specially designed for touring , however one must protect the rear rack if considering using panniers. Note photos show identical wear both sides
