Hi - wondering what people usually wear when ebiking? Anyone using additional protection (beyond a helmet) and if so what? Coming from a MTB background and used to wearing kneepads and such downhill but feel it's a bit out of place on an ebike...

Soundwave doesn't seem to think so. He'll be along soon to show you his Halo suit :p

I always wear long trousers, tops and cycling gloves. That's mainly to help protect from woodland foliage, rather than a fall.

Also, it helps to prevent those nasty little ticks hitching a ride and having a feast, given half a chance.

Found soundwave's post on protective gear - looks pretty intense. Thanks for the feedback - and good tip for the ticks!

One of the things that people rarely think about is what they have on their feet. I cringe everytime I see a cyclist wearing flip flops or sandles. The first thing to touch the ground when you are trying to regain control is your foot or feet. A well made pair of properly laced up trainers or cycling shoes are a must have.

Much the same here as others.
  • Snow board style helmet.
  • Bolle rush eye wear clear or smoked.
  • Stout Brasher leather walking boots, a bit odd for riding but very comforable and good ankle support.
  • Tenn long mtb trousers, water repelling and protection against foilage/nettles etc.
  • Gloves.
  • For winter/colder weather below 10oC some merino wool base layers.

I have vey sensitive eyes and wear variofocals and Bolle clear "over glasses" as my eyes water very badly. I recently found a company in Exeter who sell what appear to be perfect for me... once I get my eyes retested in January.... because they can get prescription lenses fitted by a company who they use.
