Hello all,

I haven't been here much for a while, and my brompton has been taking dust for few years now...

As you can see, it needs lots of maintenance to be put back to shape. Few big issues:
- Motor has several major issue
- Frame hinge does not fold easily
- Rust seems to have accumulated...

To replace it to shape, I need first to fix the motor...
- The freewheel is completely stuck
- I have one failed hall sensor
- Motor wiring need to be changed
- The rim needs to be changed too to a brompton one

Does that worth it to fix the motor? Or shall I sell it? not even sure if I can sell it.

If I do, I'd need to be able to remove the freewheel, would bike shop do it?

Hi cwah.

Only you can say whether it's worth your time. If you earn enough to replace the motor in a few hours, then your time might be worth more than the motor.

Starting at the beginning (freewheel removal), have you tried giving the spanner several good whacks with a mallet while mated with freewheel removal tool? This method has never failed to free up even the most stubborn of freewheels for me.

I don't make enough to replace the motor in few hours... but at the same time the repair is more than a few hours job....

I've tried with a hammer and it didn't work unfortunately :/

Bike shop should be able to do it,expect to pay a fee, ifyou have a good relationship with it,if you take the wheel in,they may root for free.

What you need to do is put the tool on the freewheel, bolt it on with a washer, put the tool in a vice ( if you have access to one) and grab hold of the rim of the wheel ,rotate it, then it should come undone.

You might be able to jam the remover body in a gap somewhere, have used a drain grating before, or another way is to put a large washer over the jaws of an adjustable wrench , then put a tube over the end then push down against rotating the wheel the other way.

I got mine appart by disassembling the freewheel and getting a better hold on the inside which has a notch or two.

cwah great to see your post, looks like a few of us have been off the grid here for a while. My Brompton is still going strong with the same clackerty Tonxin motor and 10K miles later.

I thought your Brompton was stolen ?

Yes but fortunately, I had 2 bromptons. One of them has been stolen. Now the second one need repair...

Doesn't have much time these day to do all these tinketing although I'd like to spend more time on it
