I have a Kalkhoff from 50 Cycles and it IS NOT like riding a boris bike when I don't have the battery turned on.
A Boris bike, as far as I can gather, is about 23kg.

Your Kalkhoff, particularly if you have a big battery, will be about the same.

It follows the unpowered ride of the Kalkhoff will be similar to the Boris Bike.

Depends on the gearing of the BB and the quality of the parts like the bearings - and the tyres and pressures I would have though.

I’ve never ridden one of them but people do ride them around flat central London quite happily. So maybe they aren’t so bad on flat roads. What kind of gearing do they have anyway?

Low gearing, partly to drag the weight but also to prevent fitter riders hammering around too fast.

I've ridden them a few times.

Not too bad a ride if you get one in good order, and as you say, most of central London is relatively flat.

So they are ridable, but I wouldn't fancy tackling steep hills, headwinds, or a long ride on one.

One might say the same about an unpowered ebike.

I have a Kalkhoff from 50 Cycles too, and ride it in ECO mode most of the time. It's just very heavy when not powered, and would only really be used unpowered if the battery was flat.

Battery capacity on those bikes makes surprisingly very little difference to the weight of the battery (not proportional).

I have two friends, they have Pedelecs that are a few years old, their bikes in comparison to the Kalkhof are very heavy. The battery is nearly twice the length of mine and double the weight. It just shows how things are improving and my advice to anyone who is unsure is to get out and try a few from the suppliers. KUDOS are a great team if you are anywhere near them. They will give you a test ride and are not pushy and a myriad of options, as I'm sure will 50 Cycles.
