After having the chain jump off the cogs for the second time in two weeks,
I am wondering whether the chain is too loose. How can I check this. I gave it a good oiling the last time thinking it may be a stiff link. Any opinions greatly received.

Sounds like it. Have you changed the rear sprocket to a smaller size?
If so, did you remember to remove a couple of links?

You might find the chain wrapping arm (tensioner) on the motor has a sticking pivot, common on these newer motor units. Try oiling it's pivot and making sure it's free, not sticking and allowing the chain to jump under load.

With the bike upside down in the photo, here's the arm shown at the top:

As you say, it's good to keep the tension arm lubricated so that it springs back easily.

But keep an eye on it moving too easily. At 100 miles (when changing the sprocket), I discovered that the single pivot bolt that carries the tension arm and coil spring had come loose, allowing the arm to swing sideways and want to climb out of the chain.

Thanks Flecc and James

I will certainly have a look and give it a bit lubrication.
Let you know the outcome.

Whilst having my Pro Connect bike upside down to carry out a gear cable adjustment at the clamp end (following James's excellent advice) I also checked the pivot bolt on my jockey wheel and it was also loose - as was the bolt on my wife's step thru' Pro Connect. We've covered about 400 miles each.

Perhaps we could do with a 'first service' list since the 'User Manual' that comes with the Pro Connects/Agattus from 50cycles does not much else than cover the battery and electronics - nothing at all on the mechanics.

I think this jockey arm issue on the later units is unexpected Mike. The earlier unit had rather different chain path geometry and a 14 tooth motor sprocket and I never knew of any troubles on the jockey arm with mine or anyone else's.
