I can see that eventually Li-ion batteries for vehicles will be banned. It's OK to take the risk with a few cells in power tools & the like but putting thousands of potential little bombs in a car is an unacceptable risk.
Yes - it's not like we have been using dangerous technology for transport for a hundred years and more.

The fire risk in lithium ion batteries will be eliminated in about 3-4 years in semi solid state or solid state batteries. They put a temperature sensitive membrane between the two electrodes to stop short circuit.
My understanding is that dendritic crystal formation piercing membranes is what is holding up the introduction of solid state li-ion. Won't a pierced temperature sensing membrane between electrodes still be a short circuit, rendering the cell useless, albeit perhaps more safely?

I hope they will solve the problem of dendrites soon. Solid state batteries don't burn, so there's little need to add anything.

everything will burn if its going fast enough even the sr72 :D
