Prestige supports new bill that seeks to reduce fire risk from e-bike li-ion batteries

Costs associated with fire-related claims expected to keep rising

"Prestige Underwriting has expressed support for the government's plan to legislate measures aimed at reducing fire risks associated with electric power-assisted bicycles (EPACs) and lithium-ion batteries."

If the insurance companies have evidence that there has been an 'increase' in insurance claims related to battery fires and its significant, then it seems entirely reasonable that improved regulation is needed.

But increased premiums to meet increased payouts should only be applied to those who keep the type of batteries causing the fires on their premises.

Luckily nobody insures roads, else we'd be banned from those too, and have to go bouncing over back gardens with extremely serious offroad "250W" builds with 2 metres of full suspension travel, whenever we need to do a spot of shopping or travel to work... but only over uninsured back gardens. Of course, an online database of uninsured back gardens would help with route planning. Welcome to the future.

The numbers are tiny in comparison to the number of battery devices.
