My bike worked fine, and i hit some potholes, hard. The battery is loose, and when I turn on the bike, the power indicator flickers on and off. I'm hoping its a loose wire, but where to look? Also, the turn key feels loose, and it works when i jiggle it for a minute, then stops again. I don't have an ebike repair as i live in Bali, should I bring it to a local scooter repair? Can I find the loose wire myself?

it's always worth spending a few minutes checking for loose wires. Do you have a multitester? you should check the battery voltage when the light flickers.

Sounds like a loose connection, or a dodgy key switch.

If you don't have the tools/skills yourself, then I'll bet one of those scooter guys will be able to fix it.

What bike do you have?

Hi Mike, I don't have a multitester, but when i do get power, its full throttle, then shuts off, until i turn it off and on again, or giggle the key.

HI> :) I just tried to take the top off the battery, and see if the ignition is intact, but i needed one more tool that i didnt have to release the top from the base. I wonder if you can go in to the top by removing the ignition swtich? I have an e-go? Not sure where its from. I didn't order it, i bought it second hand. I have not ridden it much, nor did the person before me. Its about 1.5 years old.
Thanks for your suggestion.

So Thanks for your help everyone. I just took it to a motorbike repair and sat there with the guy to diagnose. Looks like the key is too loose and not connecting the wires consistently. When i turn the key, there is a lot of play and the power flickers on and off when i giggle it. I don't know why the key all of a sudden became loose inside the ignition, or whatever it does in there. We also cant get into the key compartment. So we are over-riding the key and putting an off/on switch instead. He is going to make a hole where the switch will go. Simple solution. what do you think?

It could be a good idea or a bad idea depending on what he's going to do and how he's going to do it, and whether there's a better solution.

How can we advise you if you won't even tell us which bike you have.

That's a standard silver fish battery. 4 screws to take the top off and two screws to remove the lock. If your mechanic can't do that, I'd question his competence. It's certainly a lot easier than cutting holes and mounting switches.

The switch carries the main current from the battery, so it needs to be very robust. It's not easy to find a suitable switch.

If I were you, I'd get the correct replacement, and find someone that can solder to wire it in:

He was able to get the top off just fine. The problem is the part, if they even deliver to indonesia. But thank you. I will look into that for sure. In the meantime, it will probably be a good month before it arrives, I will put a switch on it so I can use it.

Thanks for the link! Its exactly right!

Cheers,

Trust me, if it can be fixed, one of those Indonesian scooters repairers will fix it.

I don't think those guys have ever uttered the words 'Beyond economical repair'.

If I were you, I'd have them put in a switch, and then see if you can get a new keyswitch on order. It may take 6 months, but whatever you put in there will burn out in the end. (Including the keyswitches as you have found out! Maybe order two.)

Unsolder, or strip them and put them together? Then use the switch in the front to turn on and off? I think that's what you are suggesting. Is that safer than putting in a toggle switch?

I will be ordering a keyswitch, but i do want to use in the meantime.

Its perfectly OK. A toggle switch will probably burn out and could even set light to your battery if you get the wrong one. Which one did you have in mind? You need one rated at 30 amps or more because of the high impact current from the controller's capacitors which causes arcing at the switch contacts when you switch on.
