Powacycle workbike has had it :( It's time to start looking for other bikes

After 5 years (and previous owners 9 years) I think I may need to replace my work bike.

I see there are a few more models around then there used to be and a lot of different setups and can't quite work out what type of ebike I need, and hope you lot may be able point me in the right direction before trying some out.

I use the bike for a 15 mile round trip to and from work - with the option of the long route home when I feel like it. Steep hills are involved so I would like some assistance up them to stop my asthma from taking over. I don't mind pedelling - in fact I prefer it but after a long day at work I just want to get home pronto- especially if it's raining.

I want to be able to fix punctures easily - I've had enough of pushing bike home to find my spanners,( and definately do not want to have to rebuild the back wheel from scratch because there is no way to disconnect the motor! )

Are there any ebikes that allow you to use your own power on the flat to increase speed - as my current bike is an absolute hunk of junk when it comes to this, as soon as the power cuts out there aren't enough gears to go any faster. Being able to ride the bike without power easily would definately be a plus!

Only other wish - no bikes wih shopping baskets

So far I like the look of (but no idea if they are suitable) Cytronex Charge Grater, the new Oxygen MTB S-Cross, and the Cyclotricty stealth 1000 (although the last scares me a bit).

There are loads of bikes that are massively better than your existing bike and also fully legal.
You should take some test rides of bikes you fancy. Test rides are very important as each bike will ride and respond differently. Try to find a specialist near to you with some hills to ride.
I'd love you to consider our range...

Of your selection I'd personally only consider the Oxygen for reliable everyday use long term.

But I agree with Juicy, look wider for there are many very good e-bikes on the market, all far better than your old bike since things have moved a long way since that was designed.

Also it's really advisable to try out anything you're considering before buying, since today's pedelecs have a wide range of riding and performance characteristics.

fit a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Plus to the new bike.
Besides fitting puncture proof tyres, crank drive bikes usually have quick release front and rear wheels.

All good advice, thankyou... Will hopefully book ina few test rides next weekend.... Are there any bike shops apart from Halfords that open on Sundays??
