Powacycle Salisbury LPX Mystery Cable

Been taking a look at the wiring in my 'powacycle salisbury' and come across this plug (marked as 'D') coming from the controller... black and brown wires in a small two way male plug... any ideas what it might be for?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your query but I'll have a think about it and compare with other controllers I've seen.

Often these additional plugs are for optional bike lighting from the main battery. Some series of the old type Panasonic unit had a similar spare, but I can't say specifically on the Powacycle.

That would be cool as I am looking for a better way to supply my lights... am a bit worried if you are right and they have used a male plug to supply power from and left it exposed where it might short against the frame given a small amount of rain water... will put a test on it with my multimeter later today

There are various things it could be.
Lights is a possibility but I'd have thought it unlikely as not many controllers have them.
It could be a de-restrict option - if you short the two wires it may de-restrict the bike.
Difficult to know I'm afraid, without trying it and seeing what happens, which is not without risk.

As a comparison, this is a diagram for a Wisper controller. The bikes do share many components so I don't know if this might shed any light on things.

Lighting connections are very common on the cheaper Chinese bike controllers, and Powacycle may have had a different batch at one point. The only other "spare" connector I've known of is when programming is possible, but I very much doubt it would have a programmable controller.

Thanks for all your input... i appreciate your time... i think i am going to carry on my study and see where the wires go inside the controller, try and figure out what does what.

Okay... tested the brown and black wires and it turns out to be a 27v supply seemingly straight off the battery... independent of switches.

So it seems you may be right about the lighting idea...

Now I just need to figure out a good lighting design I can fix to the bike on a permanent basis. I usually arrive home after my 12 mile round trip with 2 of the 3 bars still lit on my battery indicator so it should not put my battery under too much stress.

I think a trip to maplins might be called for.

Thanks for the confirmation Sophies Dad. On most of the controllers seen here the lighting connections aren't wired, but they are often there.

I've just come across this on the eBikes.ca site, while looking for something else. They are going to start stocking front and rear lights which will work at anything from 16-100v. No other details there yet, and probably won't be for a couple of months, but might be a useful product for those who want a solution without too much work required.
