The EU standard above, says that the battery will have a capacity of 15 Ah if it is discharged over a period of 20 hours. If more current is drawn, such that the battery is discharged over only 10 hours. the measured capacity is 13 ah.

In other words, the faster you discharge a given battery, the less energy you can extract from it. So to compare like with like, two batteries would need to be tested by discharging them at the same rate.

Maybe it was because he didn't pay the bill for his commercial use of the forum.
Will that apply to you with your newly acquired job?

For practical purposes, halve the manufacturers stated 20h rate. So in this case, assume 7.5ah or so. It might be a bit lower.

I was under the impression Frank withdrew from the forum, not that he was banned.
He did, but it seems that was simultaneous with the ban, so essentially amounting an agreement to part company. A pity since Frank made many useful contributions, even if somewhat eccentrically at times.

Two different ways of testing. The rate of discharge affects the capacity, and the other main factor is how low they're allowed to go before you end the test. If you actually used 15ah from the batteries, you'd kill them. Your controller will cut off long before you get that far.

They are still very capable e-bikes Mike, and can still outclass some current bikes for hill climb ability. And lets face it, the battery prices are very attractive compared to lithium, which in the UK range from about £350 to over £1000 for the same voltage and equal usable capacity.

Regarding the OP, does anyone know of a good reliable current supplier of these 12 volt 15 Ah SLA batteries which you'd recommend to Mike?
My wife's wheelchair clip on power unit made by ROMA uses a 12v 20ah SLA battery which sits just over the motor unit, that is a deep discharge item. When it was new I tested it with a 50 watt bulb which drew 4 amps and it ran for more than 4 hours before the wheelchair controller started to indicate the low level alarm - that was at 5.5 volts. It has given 3 years of regular daily service since. Suggest you contact ROMA for their battery.

Thanks will give them a look if a new source i have found on my doorstep proves no good.

Finally found the key so tried turning it on,after not charging for 5 years it still showed some power obviously the battery's cant be saved but charged for 4 hours and have been able to test the motor on the stand, will give it another 4 hours tomorrow and see if it will propel me 20 yards down the road for a better check.:);)
