Are these any good? Seems to be on some of the road bikes but I have never heard of them compared to the big 4. Or 5 lol

Thanks Flecc. That's about three threads in the last week or so that I couldn't be bothered to look up what they were on about, and you posted a link. What would we do without you?

Thanks - but haven't they got something the wrong way round?

Both motors output 70Nm of torque through the pedals
They missed haft off the end of pedals.

Language problem. :)

The USP (unique selling point) here seems to be that the Polini motor is lighter than the Shimano Steps motor, yet has the same torque at 70Nm.

Bosch is quite clear that the weight of their new motors directly correlate to the number of copper windings... the higher torque Bosch motor has a greater number of copper windings and thus the weight increases too.

So where are Polini cutting the weight? To get the torque, you need the additional copper windings and thus that additional weight. So where are Polini making those weight savings? Plastic gearing perhaps?

Whatever... does an additional part of one kilo weight really matter in the context of a powered e-bike?

Higher internal speed and higher reduction ratio will make more torque and power. Some of the RC motors make massive power for their size because they spin so fast, but to make the power controllable through the whole speed range, you need a more advanced controller than the average Chinese one.

These make you realise just how weedy our legal power bikes really are
