sorry I'm a bit slow to answer these day. Lots of things happening.

I'm not the big guy you've meet Dave, but I like to have good torque to escape from traffic when needed.

I never liked the 15mph limitation. It does feel bland to travel like this. It's slow and lots of normal rider are faster than me.

I'm trying not to resign myself of getting a scooter. I've been thinking of an electric scooter but unfortunately there isn't any electric plug to charge it on my flat... and my neighbor would get crazy if I start to bring an electric extension from my flat to the ground floor to charge...

I'm looking for solution, and of course, I'll probably try few other type of bike and way to hide the battery. The rear rack appears to be the best way to do that... although bike balance wouldn't be that great....

I hope to sort that out soon, for now, I'm taking 5 more minutes to go to work from an alternative road....

ps: this morning, someone on an old moped yelled at me "this is not a bicycle!". Damn, so many haters now :(

Isnt 15 mph only the cut off point for assisted power and if you pedal faster than this you can as long as you dont break the roads speed limit? im sure many lycra and normal cyclists go faster than 15mph everyday.
Afaik, road speed limits do not apply to bicycles…
However, it's probably wiser not to exceed them!

It may well have more to do with the way you ride than the look, the look is not subtle though :), as has been pointed out coming off the line so fast make it very obvious it is not remotely legal or even a bicycle.

One suggestion get a really nice legal ride and get up a couple of minutes earlier, no more worries.

I love cwah's posts always a great read!

I must admit in your circumstances I would consider a moped/motor bike.

Wow I crossed the 3000 post mark!

Must admit I d'ont post so much now. Pretty content with my set ups these days. Cwah keeps me reading though :)

Regards

A friend at work gets lots of comments on his bike, everybody knows its an electric bike, its legal but it stands out like a sore thumb, because he does not pedal a lot in fact he only pedals occasionally, when needed to go uphill for example,by contrast i like to pedal along with help from the motor,my bike is not legal but nobody seems to notice it is even an electric bike, because i pedal along at much faster speeds, and try not to go over 20 mph on the flat,if you go uphill pedalling at 18 mph nobody bats an eyelid,if you do 25mph plus on the flat without pedalling you are going to really stand out, just use your head and pedal along and stick to only racing cyclists, plus its more fun if you only just beat them, whilst staying stealthy and pedalling slowly behind, then just keep going at the same pace up a hill.

As far as i know you are correct but in the past we have had two cases of cyclists being prosecuted when exceeding the 30mph limit, you notice i say when exceeding the limit not speeding,it was decided in both cases they where behaving in a manner that could cause danger to other road users, ime talking before E bikes and defiantly over 25 years ago because i have not read a local paper since then, could it still happen?

I think the offence is furious cycling, and I read about a prosecution for it only a little while ago.

Yes, typical old cycling offences are Drunken cycling, Drunk in charge of a bicycle which applies even when dismounted and pushing it along, and Furious cycling.

In addition there are some public order offences which can be applied.

A driving licence cannot be affected by a drunken cycling offence or any other, since bicycles are not motor vehicles in law.

Sorry late answer guys.

Yes I definitely need to be more stealthy, so although the dd was cool I need to go back to geared drive. I was thinking to get the BBS02 but it's quite expensive so I may stay with small geared for now.

The scooter option would be great, but it may be too big to "filter through cars & truck" in london. And also parking may be a hassle. Battery would have to be big and weight I suppose 15-20kg... I'm considering it but it would really make sense if I can leave my scooter downstair to charge rather than taking it out. And maybe something more lightweight such as a bicycle for now would be more convenient.
