I am puzzled now. Is there any way to fit a PAS? I guess I should look into replacement of bottom bracket for something with longer shaft.
You could probably fit it on the left, though as you've said, it may need a longer shaft - depends on the type of BB as to how easy that will be.

I installed and used strava. Looks like I go over 15mph on open and flat road... But there was no wind and not much rain. And I want to ride lazily.

Current summary:

Putting motor on rear wheel looks quite complicated:
* I will need Q100
* Q100C is wider than 135mm, may damage the frame somehow
* Q100C has either too low or too high rpms
* freehub of Q100C doesn't look compatible with my campagnolo cassette. It may be possible to use 9 speed shimano cassette though.

Putting motor on front wheel is easier, but:I may need a stronger fork (probably 50 pounds). At the same time I may install disc brake on front wheel, which is nice.

And in any case I may have to replace bottom bracket with a longer one for PAS.

Is it possible to change freehub on Q100C to a campagnolo one?

The Q100C has the standard spline for Shimano cassettes. You can't change it, but Shimano cassettes are quite good and not very expensive. You can often find slightly used ones on Ebay that are cheaper still. The front Q100H is the right speed, and it's compatible with a disc, so changing your forks will give you a chance to change to a disc brake, although there's not many 700c forks with the disc mount.

It seems reasonable to install Q75 front hub with 201 rpm. I see the following reasons:
  • it is sensorless and should work "happily" with s06p integrated into bottle stand
  • 200w, 201rpm is enough for some assist on speeds below 18mph, that is in hardest parts of my route, or when it rains or is windy; otherwise light setup allows me to go faster on muscle power
  • 200w is legal in UK
  • 200w doesn't put much load on the fork, I may not need to replace it
  • Q75 is 1.5kg according to germans (not 1.2 as claimed by bmsbattery, but still light)
  • if I installed rear motor I would have to combine campagnolo shifter with shimano cassette, which isn't hard but requires some time and money
  • rear motors are all sensored, will need controller separate from bottle stand
Is all this right?

Is this: http://www.bmsbattery.com/36v/567-bottle-ebike-battery-controller.html a reasonable battery? Does it make any sense building my own battery from 18650 cells?

I will still face problems with installation of PAS. I wonder... is it possible to reduce PAS width (twice) by grinding it a little? Guys in local repair shop say that replacing BB is not a very good idea, cause gear shifting may suffer.

BTW, I got a message from bmsbattery:
hi,
we had test the Q100 cst and s06p. their combination can work well.

The S06P should work with the Q75, but I don't know anybody that's done it, so you're going to be the guinea pig. I've got a feeling that you'll find 201 rpm too slow for a road bike, but at least it's legal.

It makes little sense making your own battery IMHO. The bottle battery that you indicated above will be fine with a Q75.

New information:
on ebike.ca there exists PAS that I may be able to install:screenshot-20140209@004016.png
but I don't know if it will work with s06p...

By lookin at your bike, the pas from BMSbattery should fit (left side)

You do not need to open the BB, use sugura to secure the pas sensor

For the pas disc, u need to grind it thinner to fit

I did this on my hybrid after 1000 miles the sugura is intact.

You can remove it easily without leaving any mark

There's always something you can do if your creative, All you need is for a ting of magnets to rotate when you pedal, and the sensor, which can be removed from its bracket, to be in the correct relative position. As Pat says, you can use Sugura to hold the sensor in place, or you can make your own bracket.

This is how I did my Rocky Mountain, which is still working, although I'd do it differently now, but it should work on yours. The magnet disc is epoxied to the inner chain-wheel, and the sensor is on a home-made bracket, which is cable-tied to the BB:

I forgot to mention that you can thin-down the magnet disc a bit by filing off the raised bit by the centre on each side. You have to be careful that its inner edge doesn't touch the BB otherwise it'll start to slip on the spindle.

It's a river in Romania, and probably very difficult to attach to bike :)

I think they mean Sugru, a rubbery kind of moddelling clay sort of thing. It's good stuff.

If you want instant sugru, mix silicone sealant with cornfour, similar thing. Google Oogoo for details of the DIY version.

I only found sugura in Spain :) http://goo.gl/maps/iPsQN
Is sugura as strong as JB Weld?

I found out that bmsbattery have s06s integrated into the bottle stand as well, and this opens new roads. And as I am going for a clean build, I decided to install Q100 CST on the rear wheel. This way motor will be almost invisible, and only bottle battery will be giving me out. My frame is aluminium and seems to take 140mm rear wheel with minor stress.

I ordered 9 speed shimano cassette, and jtek shiftmate #1 to mate campagnolo shifter and derailleur with shimano cassette.

I want to keep original look of the bike, so I ordered 32 holes Q100 CST and 32 holes mavic cxt22s rim (the same that I have currently).

Now I cannot figure out what spokes I need. Diagrams for Q100 CST do not show distance from center to flanges... Does anybody know them? Any advice on spokes in general?

Q100C 108mm PCD. Flanges 33.5mm and 13.5mm from centre.

More than a week after I placed my order bmsbattery contacted me saying that they don't have my motor in stock... (they stock about 972 of them according to their website)

I may have to wait for a month or two to get my order :(

I got to see a sugru stand at the london bike show, cool stuff. Available at blacks and online.

It was the same when i ordered mine. I told them that I could wait, and they shipped it after about three weeks.

I ordered two, a high speed and a low speed one. I Still have the 201 rpm unused. I've also got a nice controller with LCD and all the other stuff to go with it. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I finally got my order! It took almost two months...

Now I am a "proud new owner" of a Q100CST with bottle battery and S06S controller in the base of the bottle.

But that is not the end to my adventures: now I cannot make it work - the wheel either does not turn, or turns uneven and with noise. I contacted bmsbattery, I have sent them video and photos of my build. They suggested replacing the controller from S06S to S06P, and offered sending me a couple of new controllers, but they cannot send them until the end of the week.....

Yesterday I learned some arduino programming, and connected the arduino to the wheel's Hall sensors, sending ground to black wire, +5V to red wire, +5V via 22KOhm resistors to yellow, green and blue wires, and reading voltages on yellow, green and blue wires, while slowly rotating the motor. I see that green wire does not ever go to zero, as on the picture:
screenshot-20140414@101332.png
(red and blue correspond to yellow and blue wires, and green is green).

I suspect now that there is a problem with Hall sensors.... I have sent new information to bmsbattery, and I am waiting for their response.

Did anyone repair Hall sensors on Q100? Is it easy? Is there a manual?

Is there a big difference between S06S and S06P?

It's easy to replace the hall sensor. It sits on a pcb, but its position is critical. If you are lucky, it will be a bad solder joint because the actual hall should be quite robust. Be careful not to change the position of any of the halls. You'll see what I mean when you open the motor. Double check the external connector first, especially the one near the motor that needs to be pushed in as far as the line. I suspect that it's not in far enough.

I spoke with them yesterday about their customer support. They're all really nice people. I think that there was a problem of understanding the European ways. The fact that they offered new controllers is a major step forward; however, that won't solve your problem. If you find that your connector was not in far enough, please apologise to them and explain what it was, otherwise tell them what the exact problem is.
