Hi, I bought have a folding cyclamatic last year and am looking for the best price on a new battery (current one OK but I'd like a 'spare'). Sports HQ were selling them for £225 each a couple of months ago, but today when I looked on their website, the price had jumped to £299. Has anyone else noticed this big jump in price? So my question is, are there any websites selling discounted e-bike accessories?

Hi d8veh, not sure me reply earlier today got sent, so here we go again...I did go to the website you posted a link to but there is postage payable on all sales. They were offering the battery for $180 but postage brought it up to just over $300 in total which is about the same price as Cyclamatic in UK ( depending on how they sort the exchange rate out).

Thhis is the 15aH one. The 10aH like yours is much cheaper. $300 is £191, which is £100 cheaper than what you said Sports HQ are selling them for and you get one and a half times the capacity. Seems like a bargain to me, i.e. £13 per aH against £30per aH from Sports HQ = less than half the price.

Here's a link to a choice of three 24 volt 10 Ah types in this list at BMS battery, $169 like yours or $149 for a seat stem pack or $149 for a carrier mount pack:

24 volt 10 Ah packs

The last one is a similar chemistry to yours, the first two the longer lasting lithium iron phosphate types.

Thank you flecc, I have measured my battery against the ones advertised and they are different - only by 10/20 mm but as mine fits snugly onto my seat stem I'm a little concerned that the difference will mean its a no goer. FYI here are the sizes with mine in brackets; 115mm (90mm), 80mm (85mm), 385mm 365 mm

That's what usually happens, any alternative battery has to go on the carrier or be seat stem mounted with cables connecting to the battery platform underside. It leaves the original position vacant, but some have created toolboxes etc for that area. Personally I prefer to pay the bit extra and have the convenience of the original battery mounting, especially as the adaptations can add extra cost for cabling, connectors and carrier alterations. But it's your choice of course. Either way, original or alternatives, these prices are not bad in a market where many e-bike batteries cost from £400 to over £1000 each.

This is the one that's a direct replacement for yours at $261 including shipping cost or £166. You don't have to change anything. It looks\ like it even has the correct charger socket.

I've measured mine and the front-to-back measurement is 115mm if you include the handle - like they've shoqn in their diagram. Width is 80mm if you include the key flange. I'm pretty sure that the aluminium extrusion is a standard size and that the measurements they've given are only approx (nearest 5mm) anyway. You'll note that they've given the same length for both the 15aH and the 10aH versions, while as the 15aH should be a lot longer. 385mm is about right for the 15aH given that there's a sizeable empty space above the cells in the original 10aH one, so I'm pretty sure, as is normal for Chinese websites, that they just used the same picture for both batteries and the 10aH one is shorter. In any case, it doesn't matter if the battery is longer: It comes with the strip that the lock goes into, so will be OK as long as you don't have your seat within 80mm of the top of your present battery.

That link takes me to one that costs $169 and postage of $91, so I'm not sure where your figures are coming from. However, I have now left a message on the website re; payment methods and refund policy etc. Will let you know if I am successful finding the right battery at the right price. many thanks.

$169 + $91 =$261 (approx) =£161
I can tell you their refund policy: In practice there isn't one. for a refund, you have to send the stuff back, which costs more than it's worth, so whatever they send you, you're stuck with . Generally they're an honorable supplier. Many of us here and on Endless Sphere forum have used them and I've never heard of any disasters, but you won't have the level of backup that you get from a UK supplier; however, they're half the price. You can't have both. Personally, I've had eleven orders with then worth a total of $3700. I reckon I've saved about £2500 compared with more secure sources - enough to buy a top spec. ebike! Pay with Paypal and you have protection against non-delivery and a guaranteed refund as long as you send the stuff back.
