Pimp My Ride

When this was raised before Paul, I said I would refuse any bike as a gift, and that still holds true.

In fact I've been offered a very large discount in one case but turned it down, saying I'd pay the full price if the time came when I wanted the bike in question.

You can guess why. :)
.
I can guess why but I just think you should get something back given how much you put in.

It speaks volumes that you would put yourself in the position of giving up potential gain to retain your impartiality.

I like these

hopefully they would tone down a bit with everything attached + I like the computer mount. Hopefully find similar in UK for less!

answer to Stokepa31.
I've just got some mean kit to go with my bike.
ie Helmet (Dont get them started about Helmets though).
and a amount spent on security with the bike not being cheap.
Also I advised in another forum thread. A Garmin Etrex, bike mount, computer cable and Figawi software is a great piece of Kit.

Got it Flecc.
Stokepa31 says he doesnt know what to do with the Torq.
Carn't Stockepa31 get his cycle to work agreement transfered to another employee?
I know im going off in a tangent here though !
Sorry.
Hi Bob

I'm going to look into my options once the new bike arrives. I may keep it yet. I am considering binning the car soon and it may make a good towing bike??? I do a lot of driving for work, who currently pay me an allowance to buy a car but they are also happy to provide hire cars for those not wanting to do it that way. My wife has a car too so if desperate ive got access. After the £250 battery contribution over and above the scheme limit and the £18 a month difference in pay over twelve months, the bike only owes me £466. Should work out in profit if I do sell it, which would allow me to maybe get some upgrades for the pro connect.

I dont think i'll be able to transfer the bike to another employee as its part of our benefits package that is only open to change for two weeks each september.

Paul

p.s. nice to see you back ;)

Glasses are an interesting one. Fortunately I dont need them but I do ware sunnies on my bike to keep the wind out. I seem to suffer badly with tears if I dont!

some reactolights would be good so I dont look a pillock when its cloudy:D

The main things I would add for prolonged use would be:

  • bar extensions - they give you more had position options for longer rides and more efficient out-of-the saddle power delivery.
  • touring SPD platform pedals and shoes - much more efficient pedaling - without them (and the technique that goes with them) you are only delivering power for about 60% of each stroke.
  • and the one thing that really helps on my 40 mile commute is my RDS radio and handsfree phone... I use over-ear hook type headphones and mainly listen to radio4 so can always hear the traffic...

See previous posts here for more details.

Maybe think about adding an light LED front light to save the Halogen one on the Pro-connect draining the battery with prolonged night use. I guess the rear LED would run from even a "flat" battery on that bike.

p.s. you can get carbon fiber bar extensions.

oh and one more thing, how about an extra fuel cell or two?

Thanks for that tom. Some really useful suggestions. I am currently researching some parts and will probably post here to confirm their suitability/size prior to purchase.

Cheers

Hi, you can spend a fortune doing up bikes, carbon racks do exist but are pricey.
A good upgrade is a quality set of wheels and suitable tyres, either ready made or from a wheelbuilder.
