I first converted a unisex steel frame with an Ezee kit. It started out like this:

And ended up like this:

Used it for about a year but found my wrists were taking a bashing. So I bought one of these:

Mainly for 63mm travel forks but also, being a hybrid, it has 48t front ring and double rear mounts for rack and mudguards. Disc brakes were a must for me, even if they are only mechs, no problems so far approx.1000miles). Added SKS mudguards, bottle mount and downtube mounted lock.

Now travels with a Carradice front box as well as panniers.


Ezee kit has been trouble free and storms up the hills around here. Battery range unknown as my bum gives out before the battery. Kit has done some 2500miles so far.
The Carrera seems a good machine and I've managed to keep two rings on the front so I can keep my cadence where I want it.

The strength to lift the tandem recumbent onto the roof rack comes from the water bottle on the owners other bike shown in this photo

Out of stock at mo. E-mail them to see when they will be getting some more in. I wouldn't be tempted to purchase overseas. These kits aren't bombproof, and the UK warranty is a good thing to have without resorting to sending stuff back overseas.

Definitely go for a hydraulic disc brake donor bike. I had rim brakes on my previous high power bike, and the hydraulics are head and shoulders above rims. Apart from a replacement set of pads, they haven't needed any adjustment or maintenance since new.

My first e-bike.
Works on the flat but not uphill!

Next was a Cyclamatic Power Plus which was slightly better but the rear wheel collapsed twice!
4 years later it still works though.

Next was a Dillenger 1000 watt front kit fitted to a Trax MTB (steel forks).
It can reach 29Mph on the flat and does between 10 and 18 miles to a charge with a 10Ah battery.

Then came the BBS02 750 watt fitted to an Apollo MTB.
Great on forest tracks as the bike was tiny and could be thrown about anywhere.
Max speed was 28Mph and hills were no problem.

The latest is a Cannondale Trail 6 with the same BBS motor fitted.

This has 2 chainrings,a 44T one for road work and a 38T one which ,coupled with a 34T-11T cassette means it can climb absolutely anywhere.
Top speed is 34Mph and when fitted with 6 Multistar 6S 16Ah batteries it has a range of up to 150 miles.
TRAIL MODE
EM3EV bag carrries a pair of batteries.

TOURING MODE
With both bags I carry 6 batteries and plenty of room left for spares,tools etc.

A pair of NES 350-48 Meanwells will charge a pair of batteries in under an hour and I have another pair as well.
