Will a 250w motor and a 500w motor perform exactly the same if volts and amps are consistent between them? Say for talking sake both motors running at 36V/15A.

you have to consider factors like reduction ratio, magnet size and weight.
it is usually easier to compare two concrete motors rather than a hypothetical case.

As it happens my mate I have done this with a 36v 250w bbs and a 500w 36v

We ran both at 18a, same settings but different bikes. Similar weight bikes though and only a couple of kg between him and me. Same batteries , same cells , both charged

No science to this AT ALL and just these two units

But we thought the 500 was quicker to accelerate , performed better under stress ie when on edge of lowering the gear to keep the cadence up/motor spinning.

But mostly the 01 was hot after and the 02 was cold after use

I guess the test is obvious as the settings are top of design spec for the 01 and well under spec for the 02.

All in all actual experience wasn't much difference. But I absolutely guarantee the 250w version run like this won't last any thing like as long as the 500w

cheers for that kirstin, interesting, sounds like it they make well have performed exactly the same then, if you'd limited the amps to 15a? As the limiting factor there seems to be the limits of the 250w machine?
