What about the 12AH option? its only a few quid more expensive, would that be better option?
The higher power one will probably have a slightly longer life. Maybe the same number of recharge cycles, so 15% longer life in miles. It might have slightly less voltage sag as well, certainly if it is made with more parallel groups of the same cells as the lower power one.

Thank you. I’m generally getting the idea, more AH more miles. Is it better trying to get yose power battery, fix what I have or but one from Aliexpres?

Original wiring has 3 cables:
cable 1 has 3 plugs in the front - one green 5pin for display and two red 2pin for brake sensor and the end section is black 6pin into controller
cable 2 is yellow 3pin from pedal assistance sensor to yellow 3pin into controller
cable 3 is from motor to controller

Photo one with existing controller,

photo two: 3 cables from controller: 1st to connect motor, 2nd for pedal assistance and 3rd for display brake sensors

What I'm thinking is to get this cable to "extend" the single yellow 3pin so I can plug the existing pedal assistance sensor and the new throttle which has a short cable so I need to get this cable to extend because the connection is in the back. What makes me wonder is if adding the throttle to pedal assistant won't cause surge/overload

I found this display with 5pin WP plug which is very similar to what I have however I cant find any diagrams for wires.

The most important is to add throttle, the display is not necessary.

My daughter had similar black pendleton bike bought in black friday sale 2017 for 600 euro. Getting a throttle to work could be difficult with your existing setup. There is the possibility of some kind of dongle/gadget available that can convert the throttle signal into pas pulses I think. Some one else my know about that. Changing to the KT throttle, controller, cables, display and possible the brake levers is probability a better option.
If it was my bike, I would first like to see what needs to be spent before I would buy an expensive battery. The pendleton will accept any 36V so it would be great to check out the existing electrics first. I would also check the bike in general and especially the rear wheel for loose spokes and the rim for wear on the brake surface as from looking at your photo, I cant see a clear wear indicator grove which would show that the rim was not worn. (Sorry if I appear to be a pessimist, but its nice to know what costs lie ahead )

TBH bike seems to be in almost a brand new condition

I have a whole step through Pendalton Somerby fully working member price £350.00 collection from London NW2 great battery fully working. The lady I bought it from fell off and never used it again.

My wifes bike not sure of the year .

@saneagle suggested that this set should be able to take any 36Vbattery so I used my sons motorbike to get the battery out to test Pendleton Somerby and everything works just fine. Took it out to test it (I have never used electric bike before) and I almost killed myself, its so slippery outside and I deduced to use front break, almost ended up being run over by a car :D

Last two things

1. I am still in pursuit of the solution for this post:
can I add a throttle to this bike without causing a surge or fire?
2. I need a new battery

Since we know now that this controller can take any 34v battery i took the housing off the bike and I took it apart to see if someone could suggest a new better one, with a longer lifespan

I like this one quite a lot however I have no idea if the cells are good

Cheaper (£106 +7 delivery) for 10.4 AH below if it fits. I would prefer to buy from a known supplier than an unknown e bay supplier.

wow that's the best option so far, however I am a bit worried I wont be able to fit my controller there, I was trying to find some videos or pictures of the housing being taken apart but no luck, what you think?

You really should consider doing the upgrade to KT controller and display as well. It will transform the performance of the bike. You'll also be able to add a throttle:-

Guys, the bike was working fine the other day but that's not the case anymore, seems to be like the PAS doesn't work properly but I am not sure how exactly it should work. When I switch the bike on the light on the PAS turn red then when I am cycling it goes off but when cycling backwards the light comes on, is that how it should be?

It's working properly by the looks of it. Check the other connectors to the controller, especially the motor connector.

it seems to be like everything is spot on, I would like to test the controller with multimeter but I have no idea how, I've previously seen a video on YT how but I can't find it anymore

The PAS LED will blink on/off, on /off every time a magnet pases the sensor .
Make sure the motor connector is fully pushed home and as mentioned all other connections are firm.
If the controller uses block connectors one can check all Halls and Mosfets via simple tests using a standard cheap mulit meter.
One assumes the PAS isn't set to 0 .

Simple trouble shooting with a multi meter.
With block connectors testing is easy peasy lemon squeezy, with julet type it is still easy if one can make up some simple Y-leads to fit temporary in line.

Everything seems to be working, its like PAS sending signal to the controller but there is no signal from controller to send power to the motor

Unfortunately no block connectors, the connector on the picture is what needs to be tested

It needs to be powered to test it, so you'd need to get the matching connector with flying leads, then wire the two power wires to a 5v supply before you can test the signal, but if it's flashing, it's probably working.

Also, it was working before whatever you've just done to it. How can it not work now? If you only disconnected and reconnected the controller, the problem must be with those connections.

it was working before I connected throttle to PAS sensor, I wanted to test if PAS can be replaced with throttle so I bought a throttle, I connected the throttle to the controller but it wasn't working so I disconnected the throttle send it back and a couple of days later it turns out the PAS doesn't work either

I don't know if that could "fry" the controller or not that's why I would like to test it, like you said its very likely the pass is working that's why I need to test the controller not PAS

A throttle can't damage a controller by connecting it to the PAS connector. Also, the LED light is working, which shows you have 5v to it and it's switching when the magnets go past. You need to look elsewhere for your problem.

Disconnect any brake sensors and then check PAS.
Apart from any other info not mentioned (however small or non descript) , I would be testing motor Halls and controller mosfets to rule them out.
