.....the display flashing L.....
It looks like an 'abnormal current level' if no other light is flashing with it. (Be sure to recheck this.) I am not sure what causes this. Others might know.
On the pendleton with the'790' unit, the flashing lights give an indication to the fault. For example, the hi and low lights flashing is a 'brake level' fault and most likely is due to switches on brake levers sticking or brake lever not fully returning to normal position. You can disconnect these to see which is faulty and bike will work. There may also be a red light led on the pas sensor behind the large front chainring which turn on with bike but flashes when you pedal.
Other codes on 790 unit for the record are,
Light CombinationDefinition
indicator light flash(LOW level)abnormal current level
indicator light flash(MED level)abnormal throttle level
indicator light flash(LOW+MED level)motor phase level
indicator light flash(HIGH level)Motor hall signal level
indicator light flash(LOW+HIGH levels)brake level
indicator light flash(LOW+MED+HIGH levels)Abnormal communicationlevel

My wife's Pendleton has lost all power to the motor.
Only covered 20 miles! Her lights all stay on though.
Going to take it back when the local Halfrauds opens up again. Fingers crossed 15th June!

The controller has a shunt and can measure and monitor the battery current. At start up, the current should be low as the motor is not running. (The mosfet are switched off). An abnormal high current points to a fault such as the mosfet faulty or possibly water in controller or damaged wiring etc.

No. The 790 is probably OK. Other than visually checking over the bike to see if there is nothing obviously faulty/ all connectors fully pluged in etc., you are probably best to return to shop, as I think there is a two year guarantee with the electrics and the indications are that there is something wrong.

I have returned it they come back to me saying no fault showing.
They have offered ne a refund, as there is no stock, I have refused a refund and advised on an exchange when in stock as the bike has gone up in price and I will be out of pocket
