I'm not sure. The last few times I've tried the browser hangs, shuts down and restarts and blocks access to protect the computer, so it seems its still detecting a threat.

Hi all,

Everything seems to be back to normal now. We checked the whole server yesterday and reported to Google that we didn't find anything and they have lifted the warning now.

So i'm none the wiser really, other than there have been other vBulletin sites that suddenly receive the warning only for it to go away again.

Russ...I tried to do a posting one hour ago and my computer shut me off the site, saying that it was unsafe to proceed. The virus 'metropolitan police' attacked my login last night but I have managed to clear it today.

Hi Dave,

What operating system and browser are you using? Have you tried using a different browser and running your antivirus software again?
No one else has reported a problem so far today.

10 minutes ago AVG blocked two threats as I tried to check PM's. Might try clearing the cache on the browser.

Don't we all.

Personally I have my AV working silently and out of view, not showing me what it's up to. As the saying goes "what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over".

Oops, sounds like an ostrich sticking it's head in the sand, hoping that something is working to protect yo ass!

:D. Looks like that, but actually isn't.

I've only ever suffered one infection and didn't bother to clear it, just restored the operation system's partitioned drive from it's backup image in about five minutes.

I always partition off the operating system and keep backup images on a second drive and offboard, so can step back to various points in time. In fact I stepped back only yesterday and then returned to the latest state after extracting some old website access information I wanted.

Hackers? They don't stand a chance!

AVG Anti-virus is still protecting me from 2 threats, one is same as Forduluke identified a few postings previously. Friday night I got the Metropolitan police virus-pleased with myself-I entered setup to uncheck it-not completely computer savvy so it was a bit of a challenge for me-if anyone else gets this virus it is simple to overcome, when you know how!
So there is threats still hanging around Pedelecs.

Ah a much better strategy Flecc, I knew there had to be some sound [computer] engineering principles at work.

I've always thought every new Windows computer should have it's Windows systems in a separate C partition at delivery, complete with an end of drive backup partition and a copy of a simple-to-use imaging program like Paragon installed. Accompanied by simple instructions on how to backup and restore, that would overcome 90% or more of all consumer Windows problems.

Of course the computer shops and repair companies wouldn't like it, many of them tell customers partitioning programs are dangerous to use! They would, wouldn't they.

I would say that depends on the problem(s) that people are experiencing. I am currently running a Mac, have had no problems with Chrome reporting the site today and I'm feeling a little blasé anyway (Chrome on a Mac)! However, others appear to have continuing probs which suggests to me that:

1. Something malicious may have bypassed their own AV and infected their machines.
2. Their AV web protection is providing false positives, an update to the AV databases might sort it out, possibly nothing much to worry about.
3. They have been infected by malicious software from some other source and coincidentally Pedelecs started to provide warning messages.

If you are in the group where you have no AV at all then my suggestion would be to re-image or re-build if no image/backup is available.

If you are in the group where you have AV but appear to be infected from somewhere and AV appears not to be able to clear an infection, then class yourself in the 'no AV' group and re-image.

The Web protection features of most AV software should be updated pretty quickly (every 24 hours, or faster), however some AV may be slower, or people have not got automated updating switched on therefore updates have not arrived at their machine in order to remove Pedelecs as a risk.

I agree, however this would increase purchase and support costs which is probably why it's not universally done that way. However (sorry to bang on about Apple products), Apple now provide various methods to do this as standard, certainly re-imaging and a backup program (Timemachine) are in-built and are very simple to use with an external drive, or even over the internet.

Part of my strategy with Windows machines has always been to partition the main single drive (assuming it arrives with a single drive) into a minimum of two partitions C:\ for the operating system and D:\ for data, that way a re-image does not affect the D:\ data drive at all leaving all your valuable data available (and ready to be backed up).

Unfortunately Microsoft in it's wisdom decided to make things user friendly and keeps everything on C:\ by default, so unless you have a good backup, you are at risk WHEN (not if) Windows blows up. Apple are guilty of this also, but to a lesser extent IMO.
