Most of the world rides ebikes with twist and go throttles its the norm in china and India which is a huge amount of people in itself but goes well beyond that. There is no reason for it to wear out the batteries prematurely because you have full control of electric power so you only need to twist when you need it, many ebikes assist all the time draining the battery constantly providing continuous assistance but with a twist and go ebike you don't have to do that. Even from junctions and up hills where the throttles work so brilliantly no reason not to keep pedalling it just removes the delay when the motor starts assisting so the motor works first but then is backed up by your assistance quickly afterwards of course once you are up to speed like any ebike the assistance disappears at around 15.5mph if its a legal ebike (bought before 2017 for twist and go) or one of Wisper's new specially certified twist and go ebikes.

Huge amount of ebikes are for sale with throttle and twist and go today and ebike kits with twist and go throttle sold here and across Europe too despite questionable legality. I wonder how many ebikes actually on the road have a twist and go throttle. A very high percentage of ebike kit bikes I suspect and small wheeled Chinese designed ebikes have them.
What's your opinion of Starmer's plan to create a manufacturing base of sorts making windmills in the UK? Unless he's intending to simply buying them in from China, which could be the case, to build his new national green energy company. It'd be good to see us growing manfuacturing capability of exportable products, instead of printing money to (temporarily) keep the value of some assets belonging to a certain wealthier subset of people aloft.

wind and solar is bs you cant store any of it and no sun or wind means 0% production and no back up they could not make enough cells to even make a batt back up possible and the cost would be insane as will loose capacity if not explode if left to long as only takes 1 cell to go bad.

if all this stuff was this good then why does china make all of it what we buy but still builds coal and nuke power stations lol.

we should join the republic of china and get fast food direct from china via ICBM missiles that can drop the drones from space, cant get faster than 18000mph :p

There's oodles more Thorium, much shorter half-life of waste, and it can't be weaponised (easily)

and how many times have i seen a brand new tech and nothing changes. :rolleyes:

i want my 40 cell 18650 pack doubled in capacity to 1000w so about 7000mah per cell not going to happen.

and try get permission to install a diy power wall forget it esp in a council house even tho we have 3kw of solar that they dont even bother to service :rolleyes:

I remember them saying that about the wheel. How we all laughed at Ug (Jnr), and said his invention didn't have legs.

You're allowed electric bikes with massive batteries - stick it on a legal 48V pedelec, and step up voltage when connected to the house? It wouldn't then be classed as a permanent fixture, and as such wouldn't need planning permission? Thousands of miles of range would be a bonus.

just say you bought that and connected it to the grid they could then use it as a back up at your expense or just refuse planning permission.

i cant heat my house with a 4090 unless i got the power and amps and make sure the cable is plugged in all the way and not bent sideways or it will catch fire :p

Install the powerwall inside a van on the street outside your house? It'd need just need to pass MOT and be road taxed. You could do that on a provisional.

A classic Bedford's 4390lb weight capacity should be large enough to accommodate a power wall to power your house, plus it's classic - no road tax. A mate has one which runs on his home made biodiesel, using used local chip shop fat - smells of fish and chips wherever he's been. Sometimes it smells like an Indian takeaway, if he's processed used oil from one.

The best way is to create more hydro-electric, but I don't know what the Welsh and Scots would say about us flooding their valleys to power English houses.........

Some new pumped storage coming along.

The most effective answer is to use less, also still the cheapest. Liz Truss wasted enough money in her wasted few days to have paid for energy efficient upgrades of a fair chunk of all of the UK's households.

The UK has to prioritise its own manufacturing and farming in order to reduce our trade deficit and huge debts. This should be the number one priority by far of any government just like it was after world war 2. So any politician commited to manufacturing in the UK is great but I'm not impressed with Starmer generally I think he is a complete idiot and typical politician and not worthy of office. I have an extremely low opinion of politicians today in general.

I have a BBS02 with a twist throttle fitted and use my bike for fitness, shopping and going to the scrap yard.

"A true variable device" does it mean once in a while? On my Mirider, if I had been tempted to use it more or less permanently, I doubt the battery would have lasted more than 5 or 6 km. On assistance 1 with occasional short throttle bursts, on an unpaved and windy cycle path, I never dared to ride over 15 km and considered buying a 2nd battery.
By 'truly variable' I meant doe people use it 1/2 pushed or 3/4 pushed or whatever, or when they use it at all do they just shove all the way onto full?

I don't think I've every used ours except fully pushed, or at least as fully as I can manage with a dodgy thumb and the throttle not very well positioned on the handlebar. A push button switch would be much more convenient for me (I'd be happy with one I needed to hold down), and take up less handlebar real-estate.

Would a non-latching push switch with two wires work on your bike as a throttle? If so, this may be ideal - I have mine directly under my left index finger, on the handgrip, making it very quick and easy to blast the Hornit 120/140db at naughty people. Available in other colours.

Thanks @vidtek and @guerney for the suggestions.
I'm not sure how the electrics of a regular throttle works.
I'd assumed it was a rheostat, but maybe that just shows how out of date my electronics knowledge is?
Also that the current that flows is very tiny, just a signal?

Would just connecting the signal to live on the three way cable work as I wanted, and without any nasty side-effects? The mini-trigger looks particularly compact.
