I am looking to replace original pedals (cage type). Going through styles on local trails very easy to scrape my ankles. I bought a pair of flat ones but on first usage found them slippery when wet. Are there any flat types that would suit without breaking the bank

I find the ones, with lots of pins in them, tend to grip quite well.

You can see them in the muddy bike pics here.

Here's my preferred pedals. They have more, longer length pins, and were less than 20 quid with long postage. I got them from ebay. The brand name is 'LIXADA'.

As a short term fix, if you have standard cheap pedals, like these in the pic below, you can file or dremmel the metal bits that stick up to give you more grip.

Perhaps think about changing your footwear to dedicated mtb shoes/boots.

The soles are often designed, so that you don't slip off the pedals.
Eddie that's where the problem arises. Last week bought a pair of Giro flat MTB shoes which have Vibram soles,and they are the ones that are slipping. . May have to revert to the old pedals when wet. Possibly have a look at some of the old fashioned rubber block types

I was dubious about my ergotecs but I have never (ever) slipped in the wet or with muddy shoes (Decathlon brand walking shoes most days). And I can ride in tongs, town shoes, waders o_O or even barefoot! The plastic diamond pattern doesn't look grippy but there is a lot of it.

Drawback(s):

1. They are HUGE and work best with 27.5 and + size wheels otherwise you get pedal strike
2. They are HUGE... :eek:
