Just to update you all, the 8 magnet sensor has solved all issues and bike works a dream. It is a conversion I did for mate with very limited funds. I had the motor wheel to donate and the battery I charged mates rates (and then some) for (it's 21ah of mj1 cella, used on 500w bbs02 but still got tons of life left , especially for a 250w build. Bought a kt controller and lcd from China, pas from amazon. All soldering, connectors and sundries in stock.

Had to cram the contoller and excess wiring into an old saddle bag. The frame is tiny (so is my friend!) So no room for a triangle bag which is my go to for these things . No throttle as he didn't want one.

Everything good except the speedo which is way off ATM.i need to play with some settings

Thanks for your help on this

Those 12 magnet pedal sensors are always giving problems. They're an unnecessary complication. They can work, but there's always a lot of ifs and buts.

Which Bafang hub and geraing ratio ?
Use P1 84 initially to see if that is close.

Pleased to hear all is working ok now, the 8 or 10 poles counts are so much better then the 12 counts ones. My first Kt conversion many years ago came with a 12 pole and though it worked it was a bit inconsistant, when I changed to a bz10 it was a different ball game.

C1 changes the pas direction. If your display is set to 0, or 1 or 2, change it to 5 or 6 or 7 and vice versa.

0 and 5 are usually the highest settings
2 and 7 are usually the standard settings
1 and 6 are usually the middle settings
Brand new member here….this was my issue with a new PAS.

Was set on 2, switched it to 7….all sorted.

huge thanks

On any bike, you reverse direction of a magnet disc type PAS by flipping the magnet disc. If it works backwards, you installed the magnet disc the wrong way up.

KT controller has a setting to respond to the reverse pattern, but it doesn't always work. Try it first, otherwise flip the disc.
hi the way the pas sensor detects the direction of rotation in the following way :the hall sensor is composed of 2 elements..... the pair of hall sensors give a 1 signal to a magnetic north and a 0 in response to a magnetic south ,the area between the magnets give for arguments sake therefore would be norths and would give 0 and the area immediately opposite the magnet would be a 1 ..as the magnets pass the the first of the pair of sensors ....it makes a 1 ,as it passes the second ,it produces another 1 after that it will produse 6 x 0 ....so in forward direction it makes 110000001100000011000000 and so on but in reverse it will produce 000000110000001100000011000000 ,if it sees zeros followed by two ones then its goin forwards ,if it sees 6 zeros followed by two ones , then it knows it going backwards the controller looks at the mark space ratio and uses this to determine direction of rotation . the reason yours isnt working is simply that the magnets are too close together for it to determone the mark/space because the magnetic fields are too close and are interfearing .....get a disk with less magnets on .

Good explanation, though probably wrong; however, the only thing people need to know is that most of the 12 magnet dual sensor ones are handed. They can only be fitted one side of the bike. L or R is marked on them. Other types can be fitted either side, and if they work backwards, you can solve it by either flipping the magnet disc or use a setting in a KT controller. Most other controllers don't have the setting. You cannot use the setting in a KT controller to fix a handed one mounted on the wrong side of the bike.

In your explanation, you have ask which came first, the chicken or the egg. If you start at any random place in the repeated pattern, it's the same pattern. It just depends where you start. How does the controller know where you started, as the sensor could be in any position.?
