Oxygen bikes are quite well liked on here.

I don't know how mobile you are, but a visit to Oxygen HQ near Rotherham is in striking distance from Newcastle by car.

John, the guy who owns Oxygen, is very amenable, you could have a go before buying, and he would probably look after you price-wise.

I like Oxygen bikes. They're one of the oldest established brands, so there's a lot of experience that goes into their making, which you don't see on the surface. All the information that I can glean shows that they're very reliable bikes.

They have one very useful feature that will suit some people. The secret of how to derestrict them is out, so they can be made to go very fast.

Thanks for the reply, at the moment I have an ezee sprint, I'm toying with the idea of selling it and going for the oxygen bike.

My Oxygen is coming from a dealer in Newcastle, if you want I can mail you the details but I had a look at a number of different brands and decided on the Oxygen, some brands were just too expensive for me and I wanted a more discrete battery so in frame works for me.
Thank you, I'd appreciate that :)

There's no good reason for the OP not to use ElectricBikeShed.

And there's a lot to be said for buying locally.

Al I would say is that if the OP is very price sensitive, he may get the bike cheaper from John in Rotherham.

The cost in terms of time and money in traipsing down to Rotherham needs to be taken into account, and may make Shields the better overall choice.

I think the South Shields shop is going to be my best bet.

I bet if you ring John first, he'll give you a discount at least enough to cover your travel cost when you buy one. It just depends on how much you need to rely on or support a local dealer. It'll be a nice day out to Rotherham, but that's 5 hours you could be riding your bike for the sake of a saving of say £100.

I've spoken with Trish a few times myself`. It's a shame all these people are so nice because you want to see them all do well. I think it would be much better to buy one from her rather than Tescos, but then the Tesco ones come from Ebikes-direct that's owned by Matt - another nice guy, who's nothing like the sort of person who you'd expect to be running a business like that.

I don't really have any preference where the bike ends up coming from, it would be nice to see one in the flesh tho, that would make South Shields the better place. I did email another shop to see if they stock them but they didn't answer, so I take it they don't :D

Yeah they will have mine until this weekend when I hope they deliver it, but I don't think they had one in stock, no local shops around here that stock Oxygen, I was given the phone number of Electric Bike Shed by John at Oxygen and I am paying an extra £50 for delivery, bike will be checked out beforehand and it will come with battery charged ready to ride.

i know lots of people on here can take wheels off, fit tyres easily, change things, I have never been good at that so I am happy to let the shop do it, the only downside is if something goes wrong within the guarantee as they are 70 miles away and I do not drive.

I will keep it clean, do the chain, battery, brake, tyre and spoke checks.

I prefer the shop to sort things, the least I've got to do the safer all round, dealing with something like a puncture is about my limit if I'm honest. I keep mine clean, I'm ok doing the basics but that's as far as I go.

This is it.

Mal69. I've done nearly 500 miles since January. I had to slime the tubes as got a couple of punctures. None since then. And I whacked the front derailleur putting it in and out of the back of the car. Which a local bike shop fixed and put in a new gear cable for a tenner.

Problem free.
