I have now been riding e bikes for a bit over 10 months.
Prior to this I had regular problems with my left knee following an injury during a crash whilst cycling off road many years back.
Going back 12 months, each morning going down stairs just after getting up, my knee was very painful, particularly going down stairs. I had to use the bannister for support, and in cold conditions the knee joint would spasm and collapse, this pain would remain for most of the day.
Cycling on a standard bike was possible, but got painful after just a few minutes, so all I managed was down to the local shop and back, (about 750 yards). I have tried all kinds of physiotherapy and have considered surgery, but 12 months ago just running on a hard surface was too painful to endure for more than a few seconds.
Since then, I have ridden over 1500 miles on my hub drive ebike. Whilst being fantastic fun, I am pleased to report that my knee is now the best it has been for many years. The long periods of light pedalling seem to have re-activated the lubrication systems in my knee, (at least thats what it feels like).
Nowadays, I routinely whizz down the stairs in the mornings without holding the bannister, with virtually no pain at all. I can now run flat out for a minute or two with just a hint of the discomfort that was the norm a year ago.
Most significantly, I have just completed a 15 mile ride on my old unassisted Raligh M-Trax mountain bike with only a little discomfort, Unbelievable. There's no way I could have done that 12 months ago. The medical proffession suggestedthe prognosis for my knee damage was permanent and would not improve, but they had clearly not allowed for the miraculous effects of riding an ebike.
To say I am pleased about this would be an understatement in the extreme, and worth more than any amount of money. I can even go for a 10 mile walk again now with barely any pain whatsoever.
Its a bloody miracle!! E-Bikes really are fantastic.
