Surely not quite a first time, I believe there are already some contraflow cycle lanes in Central London, though I accept a paint marked lane is not quite the same thing.

The City announced theirs months ago, they already had some in place where the cycle lane was physically seperated. Since the announcement was made I haven't seen any new signs so maybe they had a change of heart, one road off Moorgate had already been done and remains the same but the rest are still one way only.

The newspaper report I read said no separate cycle lanes were planned and that this system of cycling the "wrong" way in one-way roads has been widespread in other countries for many years?

One way wrong way in Hackney

In Hackney there are a number of one way roads with a painted bike lanes going yhe other way. I also travel the wrong way down a one way street every day following a cycle route arrow. There are no cycle lane markings on that road and I have to watch out for cars at the start of the road. Once I am on the road (RHS) the oncoming cars don't ever seem to be bothered.
