Me too Indalo, I've often commented that I'm just an ordinary member amongst equals with no admin powers or official influence. I've never for one moment regarded myself as having a higher status than anyone, in or out of the forum, even when the army insisted that I did have one as a sergeant.

If I can't divest myself of the "senior" part of my description, I shouldn't think you have much chance of divesting yourself of guru flecc.

Plain, basic-grade, dog-soldier "member" suits me fine and if others are happy to be designated "senior" that's fine by me but I'd rather not.

Regards,
Indalo
I have modified this now to 'New member' for those with less than 30 posts. Then it gets set to 'Member' thereafter. Flecc has reverted to Member too.

Many thanks Russ, I appreciate that and I think it will reduce the "red-rag-to-a-bull"aspect which I think often prompts the frequent attacks I suffer. It's notable that these are often accompanied by sneers about the Guru title such as that from d8veh above.

Very egalitarian... but can I be a 'Super Member'?

Only kidding... :)

Very good point flecc and I'm one who is affected in that way. Although, like you, I held rank in a former life, I was always rebellious and a constant thorn in the flesh of my superiors. I have never enjoyed the hierarchical system, believing it to be fundamentally flawed. As I have grown older, (not necessarily wiser!) I have come to realise that all systems are flawed and even natural selection is imperfect.

I'm delighted that Russ has altered the nomenclature, suiting my stated desire to be known quite simply as member....(it's a socialist, democratic thing, I think) although, believe it or not, my pleasure is tainted slightly by the fact that you too have been effectively demoted. If you're ok with that, then that's fine but I could have lived with the guru bit unchanged.

For those previously known as "junior members", I always felt sorry for them as "junior" has a similar breadth of meaning to the word "cheap" as has been discussed elsewhere. It evoked thoughts in my mind like, apprentice, greenhorn, trainee, cub and so on. Of course, many of those "junior" people were elderly, had been cycling for 50 years and had probably forgotten more about most things than I had ever learned.

Anyway, right at this moment, I feel quite good about my demotion back to the ranks....and I don't even lose any pay! How good is that?

Regards,
Indalo

Well, no matter what, you will always be the Pedelec Guru to me Flecc, but as long as you are happier then thats the main thing.

Best wishes

Blimey! We Brits do appear to be a becoming bunch of shrinking violets. We had more robust arguments in my school debating society in the 50s than we have here and even among 14 year old boys that didn't cause any offence. A ruffling of the feathers doesn't hurt anyone.

As for the status of guru, junior etc, again when did we become so sensitive? Who cares, what difference does it make?

I value Flecc's contributions because of his expertise and the sharing of it in his posts. I sometimes disagree with his opinions but I've yet to meet anyone whose opinions I share 100% and I have yet to see an offensive post from Flecc. There are many other informed and entertaining folk who that make this forum worth visiting.

The only people I wish would keep off this forum are the 'want to go faster' folk. Their immaturity and disregard for the perfectly sensible laws that govern e-bikes demean and disadvantage all of us and would be better not expressed here in my view.

However, my view has no more or less force than anyone else's here so I will express it as I see fit within the rules of this forum....which takes me neatly back to the beginning of my post ;)

Like wise the only people I wish would get kicked off this forum are the people who keep on sabotaging other threads with "your not aloud to do that, its to fast, it to powerful, thats against the law that is, would be better not expressed in these treads, If they what to be the self appointed forum epolice start there own threads and leave the 18+mph speed folk to there own threads.

I worked out each member's posts as a percentage of the 106,240 total posts on the forum.I have also provided the date of joining and the year of last post if not made in 2011.

This was only intended to satisfy my curiosity to identify the the top 30 of the forum's staunchest supporters - at least by this statistic. Nothing more is implied.

I also used this post as an experiment on how to format a table of numbers from a spreadsheet, perhaps in preparation for future posting of pedelec performance statistics.

My goodness looking at that league table of top posters I really need to get a life lol

I don't post so much these days, but when Dan and I were building our EBromptons I think we spent every day on here for a few months posting texts and pics.

Interesting to see the percentages 10mph, thank you.

Major contributors to my very disproportionate number of posts has been the fact that I was the first member, was almost the only adviser for some while, and have remained in the forum throughout.

Most members have been in for a much shorter period and many only visit periodically, but they often make major contributions in number and value when they do visit.

I only listed the top 30 by number of posts. They have made 47.2% of all forum posts.

Looking at the other end of the list, 1808 members (48% of the total membership) have just lurked and made no posts. About 975 (1%) have made more than 5 posts.

My 111 posts made before this one placed me at position 164 on the list, with 0.1% of the total posts. I have been registered on the forum only for 5 months, so I think I am showing at least some indications an addiction.

For those curious about their own position you can see the list here.

Russ's number of 40,000 unique visitors in the 24 days so far of this month, certainly makes one think of the importance of making posts with useful information and enaging in productive discussion. I think this is a pretty good place.

Good decision Tony. Longer term members will remember when I once left the forum for a short while for similar reasons, returning after a break.
I could use some help Tony. I've sent you a PM

Hey Guys (and Gals) I am fairly (well very) new to this thread and I am very grateful for the help and advice I have received so far from a number of members. I would be very disappointed if a major source of knowledge and expertise dropped out of this forum because of a difference of opinion with another member.

So in my own interests and being totally selfish may I please request that members put the needs of the novice (me), the ignorant (me probably) and the ham fisted (me, again) first and help us out by staying and contributing with their vast experience and knowledge as there is nowhere else much we can go for this.

I dont have vast experience or knowledge. I'm staying because of my love of spreadsheets! ... so Willin, which spreadsheet can I add you to? Have you decided to go for a complete bike or a kit?

You can add me to both - eventually. I'm whizzing around on a Cyclamatic at the moment but I intend to electrify my Specialized HardRock in June if I get the kit I am after (more details later). If that goes well then Mrs. Willin will get the Cyclamatic - unless I electrify her Trek 7.2 Hybrid in which case the Cyclamatic is up for sale unless one of my daughters takes a shine to it.
