Olympic Venues will be subject to strict security and as well as banning obvious weapons such as knives, the extensive list of banned items includes Motorcycles , Bicycles , roller skates and skateboards . Babies without tickets are also banned .
It looks like the poor Londoners who have paid extra rates for the event will be walking everywhere . To enable the Transport system to cope better you are being asked not to use it . It was suggested on TV tonight that you spend a few hours in the Pub and avoid peak time travel if you have to go anywhere .
As Ebikes are halfway between a pedal cycle and a Motorcycle , that must mean we are banned as well . Well I won`t be personally as I don`t live in London , thankfully for this Summer at least .

A bike frame packed with explosives would make a great bomb. I was an Royal Engineer for 12 years (not EOD) and it would be simple for anyone with even a little explosives knowledge to set the bike up. I can see why they are banned.

Roller blades...spectacular suicide bomber maybe?

An unaccompanied baby!!!!!!!!! Well you never know what it has strapped to it as it is crawling along do you? I would think that unaccompanied babys anywhere would be frowned upon. Especially by the social services.

It sounds like some jobsworth with their heart in the right place, but their head on another planet thought these up.

But there has been a cycle route developed across south east London for those going to the Olympics!

That was planned first ages ago, the security ban came later.

Bikes are only banned from being INSIDE the Olympic Venues - you can still ride your bike TO the venues and lock them up outside in the specially constructed secure cycle parks.

Hmmm, bicycles banned inside the venues.

That's going to disappoint those with tickets for the Velodrome events. :(

Bicycle bombs were much used against French colonialists in Indo-China (later Vietnam); see "The Quiet American" by Graham Greene. Also at various other hotspots, mostly in the Far East. I believe the IRA used them on a couple of occasions too.

Bang!!!

Hi all. I work in the Airport Security Industry and all I can say is I hope the cycle park is a fair distance from the venue itself as a cycle let alone an electric cycle with the large battery case could devastate! and area for 50mtrs around it,and just think of how much explosives you could pack into a battery case???.

With my Ping battery possibly looking like a block of plastic explosive, complete with many protruding wires and a BMS that could be mistaken for some sort of timer or remote trigger, I should probably be arrested if I tried to ride to within half a mile of the stadium!

Even if I was the slightest bit interested in the Olympics, which I am not, I would stay away from this No. 1 terrorist attraction.

I'll be testing that as all my routes to work go past an Olympic venue. :(
I've tried booking those 2 weeks off as holiday but I've not had a yes yet.

I live near the Olympic park. The roads all around have all been rebuilt either with the worst, most tokenistic cycle facilities, which evaporate near the big junctions, or none at all - including Stratford high street which is an urban motorway up to eight lanes wide. In the Olympic park itself the roads either have no cycle tracks or ones that just jump from one side of the road to the other. For example, the half mile journey from the cycle park near Stratford City to Stratford high Street, which for road users would involve one simple right hand turn, requires anyone using the 'cycle path' to dismount and use no less that six pelican crossings (but with a green 'bike light' added). Utterly useless, especially bearing in mind they had a blank canvas.
