Yes have double checked motor connector is fully inserted up to line
You have to take the side plate off the motor so that you can get at the halls on the inside, then check continuity between the hall's signal leg and the end of the motor cable. If you have continuity, you have to check that the hall is switching, then, if it is, replace the motor cable.

just had an hour on motor. All 3 halls appear to meter the same, i.e. signal to ground on all 3 is same, signal to +ve on all 3 is same etc etc but the measurements are different. I think the hall appears good. signal pin to plug continuity is good. tomorrow need to check green continuity all way to controller.
label on motor is XF07 36v250w20" 21011401
I'll update this once checked continuity to controller

The only thing you need to test is whether they're switching. You already established that it's the green one you need to test. Connect the motor, switch on, then check the position where the green hall is connected to the pcb in the motor (assuming it has one). You have to rotate the motor backwards to get it to switch, You can do it with a 10mm open ended spanner on the axle.

Show photos if that doesn't work.

Unless the motor's full of water, there's no reason for a hall to fail. The only things I've see recently are broken wires and the thin wires worn through due to incorrect routing.

metering between -ve and hall signal pin, green nothing, blue and yellow both switching. green continuity to controller OK. Motor shows no signs of water ingress. are Halls glued in ? I can release its PCB but halls seem tight.

Before anything, check the hall signal to ground in case it switches up instead of down. Sometimes the middle one works the other way round. Sometimes they're glued sometimes not. You can normally prise them out without much trouble. Make sure you note which way round it goes.

At last got to it again, Halls were glued in, damaged 2 getting them out. I've cleaned glue and damaged bits from slots. They are SS41s so have ordered 10. Is there a need for the glue ?? They will be pretty tight and keeping legs to PCB the right length I think they'll be stable. If I need glue, what type ?? What grease do I use on planetary gears ??

I would glue them if you can with a bit of silicone sealant, particularly on the legs. The vibration in the motor will cause the legs to break due to metal fatigue if any movement is allowed.
