Hello! Just bought an old Powabyke with rear stand. Really like the size, shape and tyres. Think is although almost fully charged it only assists on flat. Zero power for any upward slope. Super whizzy otherwise. Any advice? Maybe need a full charge? can i remove battery pack to do that? Without gears it's hard work thanks for any help.

It needs new batteries. You take the battery off the bike and unscrew the case. Inside are three standard SLA batteries that you can buy from anywhere. It's important that you get the type for electric vehicles, not standby batteries, which are cheaper.

Take clear photos of the wiring and rire routing before you pull the batteries out because sometimes they only fit back if you put everything the same as it was. I've spent many happy hours tring to solve the puzzle of how to get the stuff back in the case. It's like those Chinese puzzles. When you know the answer, it's ded easy, otherwise impossible.

Thanks! Look like scooter batteries? Seems the charger doesn't work (no light, no heat) so I guess will be using pedal power until I find one

Yh very cheap 80 quid mobility scooter batteries easy to fit and cheap . Best ebike in my view is these old lead acid ones. Cheap and easy to get batteries and full throttle to a good 12 mph

My year 2000 'euro' powerbyke is still on it's original nylon tyres despite the 110kg total load on them. Unbelievable! In half that time I have got through a good many MTB tyres.

I just changed my 20 year old tyres in April on my my shopper they'd done well. Only on second set of batteries and they'll do till the new year. It's better than the modern bike I had tbh. I did have to get a new charger and do the break pads and chain but that's it. . it's such a good bike. I twist the throttle and woodh of at 12mph with no effort or I can peddle. I love the control of the PAS even that's on a throttle not a consistent one. So for workout cycling I cycle normalt and then if I hit a big hill twist it to turn on pas and it helps me. My old one was on or off. Not so good.. yh Powabykes forever lmao. Just about to use mine now .

Funnily, my Euro21 never had PAS, perhaps because it had just come out in production. Not that I missed it, just used to hold the throttle at what setting I wanted by squeezing my hand a little. The throttle return spring broke ages ago so I used a length of pyjama elastic clamped in place with 2 plastic ties. Works fine and just a gentle return. It's the only bike I can use with a single wheeled trailer as it has standard size rear wheel bolts. It is so darned heavy that the addition of more weight to pull is hardly noticed unlike the odd feeling as the bike and trailer lean over together.

Oh fair enough. I don't see much of a difference with the pas all it means is you have to pedal to twist thr throttle and it's a little less powerful. Apparently it does 50% of the work for you but I'd say more. Mines the mark 2 2002 mind you Idk the mark one had it. .. I've noticed Powabyke shoppers are exactly the same as sakuras so idk if Powabykes made all the bits of not. I use P mode anyways most of the time not A the assist ..
