What do you mean by off-road kit?

You can put just about any tyres you like on it, you could even upgrade the forks/brakes if you wanted...

I don't see the point !!!
Get a decent used mtb HT or F/S for sub £400/500 and fit a bbs with down tube battery.

Have to agree with Nealh. That bike is primarily a commuter, and just adding knobbly tyres and changing components will be sure to disappoint.

You not fancy the likes of a Haibike, which will stand up to the rigours of the rough stuff far better?

Do you already own that bike, or plan to buy?

I think he means that he wants to go faster. Is that correct?

If this is correct , and I suspect it is, then I agree with Nealh, all things are possible but you'd be throwing good money after bad. Sell it and start again.

Or, if determined you could go down the booster battery route. This means buying a 8.4v battery and charger.

Then break into the main power cables and series the new battery in. This will take you up to 44.4v.

You'll be working on the edges of what the controller can tape and be chucking any warranty out the window. You might fry the controller although this is not too likey it is a risk.

Btw I have done this on another big standard 36v hub bike. As have others

You'll get about 30% more torque and speed..

Just swapping out the controller might get you a couple of.mph

He won't get any more speed with a boost battery because it's limited to15 mph.

If it is the case, can we then amend the term from "offroad" please. There is no difference using the bike on or offroad. If you want to remove the speed limit on the assist. What you're looking for is:

hello

does anyone know if there is an "Illegal" kit for the Halfords Carrera crossfire e-bike as it has all Suntour equipment on .

we really need to be helping people who come onto this forum and make them realise that "offroad" is not a thing. It never has been and never will be.

If it's illegal on road, it's illegal offroad.

If of course he's just after some tyres... then of course ignore us ;:)

Off road (speed class) on private land is okay but i doubt if that is possible for anyone reading this thread.

yes and that private land can be tarmac or a field, it doesn't matter.

The term "offroad" needs the be one of the words that this forum auto corrects. Its not correct and its misleading.
Auto-correction would be an unsuitable measure and would surely be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. 'Offroad' is a perfectly valid word meaning "away from the road; on rough terrain". It's the assumption that 'offroad' is synonymous with 'private land' that is the error.

yes I know... it wasn't a serious suggestion because clearly offoad is in about 10% of the cases on this site used correctly.

I just love the way on some forums Scunthorpe is changed, it makes discussions far more amusing.

I'm sure you are right but I thought it was akin to. my old 8fun kit. That too was limited but increasing voltage did add speed and torque.

Does this mean that the carrera is software limited rather than by motor wind at a given voltage?

In which case a ku65 with the restrict/unrestrict loop might work ? Allowing unrestricted use for private land situations (which may or may not be off-road)

Just interested from a learning POV

I don't know, (as I haven't tried it and I am assuming that it uses a BLDC motor) but there's a good chance the KU65 would work. It'll run sensorless, so that only leaves phase angle as a potential problem.

That would be a great upgrade path for anyone wanting it, as it would enable a throttle, shunt mod for more current, speed restriction lifting etc.

I've not studied the Crossfire, but AFAIK it has the controller in the battery receiver. You can still replace it with any controller in an under-saddle toolbag if you're OK with a bit of wiring.

I'm just doing a Schwinn Tailwind at the moment - strip out the control panel, add throttle and replace the 24v rack battery with a 36v one that comes with a 18 amp controller. Afterwards, the bike will have double the power, four times the range, 50% more speed and a much better control system for about £300. The bike itself isn't bad. I think they discounted them right down to about £700, so for £1000, it makes a really nice Ebike.
