Off-road with a GNG kit

I may be wrong, but it looks like it's gaffa-taped to the frame, just above the drive. Not a particularly neat solution, but it seems to work!

I've been looking into mid drives recently, as I find myself strangely attracted to their incredible climbing ability, power, torque, and overall efficiency - and they would seem to be the best match for a full suspension MTB.

Battery mounting remains an issue though, but I like the backpack approach taken by Austrian mid drive manufacturer, EGO:

Battery weight in backpack is just 4.6kg (48V, 12.5-Ah battery), and for traversing rough, hilly terrain I'd much rather the weight was carried by the rider than the bike.

My only problem with mid drives is that, compared with hub motors they're pretty noisy, but I guess you can't have everything...

Only true of some of the cheaper add-on mid drives like Cyclone etc. The best mid drives like those from Panasonic, Bosch and others are far quieter the most hub motors, so much so that some are effectively virtually silent.

Thanks Flecc. I've only recently started exploring the world of mid drives, and the only ones I've actually 'heard' are the likes of the GNG and EGO kits, but that's only been via video clips. The EGO kit is by no means cheap - around £1800 I believe - but if you check out the clip I posted above, it does seem to make a fair bit of noise.

Perhaps this is only an issue on the more powerful off-road mid drives?
