4/5 years battery life that's pretty good going Indalo..did you take special care of it or just treat it normally?
I treat it much the same as my mobile phone battery and I'm happy with its performance although it's showing the first signs of degradation this winter - only 4 lamps on following the press and hold test. I'm hoping that Flecc's right and that the battery may recover the apparent reduction in power once the weather warms up again. The bike (and battery) has been kept outside all winter whereas it was garaged through previous winters.

Further degradation of course may not occur in a linear fashion but I'm optimistic that I can get another year's service out of it. Fortunately, although mine is a 27Kg bike, it can be pedalled quite easily on flat ground so running out of juice isn't such a big deal as with some hub motor bikes with their drag factor.

Isn't your battery holding up pretty well too?

I'm on my second battery now, a BMS 10Ah Lithium-Ion.. which I've had for about 5 months now... my first battery was a 2 x 5Ah LiFePo4 and one of them failed after just 8 months. These were cheap batteries from eBay though made by some Chinese guy operating a small biz... the other one of the pair is ok but was never quite as powerful as the one that failed. I'm not sure if the batteries were just poor quality, under too much load (I used them separately), or whether I was just unlucky, it appears only one cell died and the seller couldn't replace it when I asked.

Funnily enough the 10Ah Lithium-Ion worked out the same cost as buying the two 5Ah LiFePo4s, but the weight is significant lower than if I used the two LiFePo4's together (about 40% lighter at 2.3kg).. But the 10Ah Lithium-Ion does offer a significant performance benefit over the separate 5Ah LiFePo4 I used to use..particularly on them hill :)

Agh. Caught out. I thought I was too clever for you guys!

I actually, as you have surely determined, was very interested in the bike hence the reason I started to follow this sale. I'm still following it purely now out of interest. I'm not bidding, no seriously I'm not, for the following reasons :

The bike may be near new however there is no way of telling as to how the battery has been treated since "new". I would guess that any purchaser might have to factor in the cost of a new battery which for the BionX system is astronomical. I can buy a new Valencia for £1220.00 with full warranty. I still think that the present bidding, from the history of "bids", is questionable even though the two highest bids can't be linked to the seller.

Factoring in the new battery cost I would say that the present price at £525.00 is approx' £50 or so away from the max'. Anything above £600.00 is a pure gamble and I don't gamble.
I would think the same about bidding on an item like this... way too much of a gamble once it goes past £600. You only have the sellers word its ok and he's not got much reputation... with auctions you have very little/zero comeback if anything goes wrong eh. That's what makes me a bit suspicious on high value items offered by auction with no reserve... if I was selling a bike like that which is as he described, mint condition and all in good order..then I would do an offer-based listing...start with the price you want (or a bit higher) and allow offers..

The bike is still under guarantee so less than 2 years old. I can assure you there is nothing you could do to a bionx battery in 2 years which would kill it. I treat mine really bad, i run it empty at least 10 times a week. It gets left in freezing conditions and has covered thousands of mile and its still like new after almost 2 years. Yes the battery's are more expensive but as the old saying goes buy cheap buy twice.

That has often been the reported experience with BionX batteries, although they are expensive they perform well, even at three years old, and very low rates of capacity loss reported.

Just looked at the pictures of that bike and i am 100% certain that bike is brand new. Those handlebar grips get dirty after one or two rides and they look new. The bionx motor on the Trek has a dimple pattern which is impossible to keep clean. So i do reckon this bike has hardly turned a wheel.

Me to...It does look in top condition. bid near £800 now and just over 7 hrs to go.

You feeling lucky punk.....well are you!lol

I think it could go up another £100 or so in which case the new at £1200 makes more sense. if it had been a step through I might have gone for it for the wife...

this shop has them for £999 http://www.thebikefactory.co.uk/productdetails.asp?productid=57583

Yes the valencia really does not sell well. But i bet if you phone for any of the 2-5 days one you will not get it for 999 that will be for the one thats been kicking about the shop for years.

But if you could get it for £999 that would be the better buy.

£800 & plenty now with 20 mins left. Really, that's where the price ought to be on ebay for this bike. I suspect it may go higher as there's been lots of interest but I'm not bidding simply because it's a solid front fork model.

Nice bike nevertheless!

Hmm. Not me. Still no feedback on Ebay from the purchaser.

Last week I did buy a 2009 Kalkhoff Aggattu on Ebay for ...........£300.00. It was on Ebay for some 20 minutes apparently before I bought it. Just can't resist a bargain. Came complete with all keys, manual and charger. Obtained a receipt for purchase from the chap who had owned it fron new.

I actually really can't say that I want this Kalkhoff as it's too heavy for my purposes. I carry my bikes on the roof of my car with a max load per bike of 20Kg. I may just play with it for a month or so and then sell it on.

It's in superb condition with only a crack in the rear mudguard.

As I said I just can't resist a bargain!
Regards
vectra

I had asked a question about it and you snapped it up. How much life is left in the battery?
