My daughter lives only a few hundred yards away from me, but there are two hills between us. I use my e-bike mainly as simple transport and think nothing of popping over to see her on it.
Yesterday, my son in law asked me to electrify the old bike that I gave him when I gave up unassisted cycling.
So, I rode this bike, a 1992 Universal mountain bike back to my house. the two hills which I breeze up on my Enduro, or even motor up, were awful. I have ridden up these hills countless times on the Universal in the past, and have to accept that I am getting old, but the sheer expenditure of energy for a short distance really brought home to me just how much help a modest 200 watts are.

Yes it comes as a bit of a shock when on those rare occasions I venture out on a non assisted bike!:p

Last week I suffered with a bad connection about 3 miles from home so I thought I'll give it a go un-assisted. After a few minutes I thought stuff this and decided to try and fix it - it was like an obsession, with no tools and light fading but I did it. It's what you get used to and I sure am used to electric assistance.

I certainly know why i like electric bikes. With headwinds like we are having now, an electric motor is the absolute solution, who wouldn't want one?
Well, most people i work with.......can't see the point! (they drive their cars of course).
As to going back to unassisted cycling?......never......

Just came back from my daughter's, uphill into a stiff headwind. I was gently pedalling in 3rd from bottom and had more discomfort from the holes in the front of my helmet than from the wind and hill.

I couldn't go back to a conventional bike now either. Personally in my situation, before I bought the leccy bike, I thought I could gradually get back to a conventional cycling - but for me middle age and being very unfit certainly put that to bed. Even my partner who hadn't cycled for years and loves my electric bike, decided to buy a new conventional bike. He got a hell of a shock just how unfit he is. All he does is complain about it when he rides it. Its great for me to be up front and him whinging and puffing away behind. I think in our heads we think we can return to how we used to cycle in younger years but we get a shock when we can't (having had a huge break from cycling in the intervening years).

I love my electric bike and the freedom it gives me, so much.
