Couldn't even if slower. The Pedestrian Controlled Vehicle Regulation requires hand-on control of the "follow" function with immediate automatic stop when the pedestrian lets go of the control handle. Maximum permitted speed is 4 mph (UK) or 6kph (EU).

Yes, but I hope they react a bit quicker than they usually have, It took 5 years to align the EAPC regulation with the EU basics, then 13 years to correct the regulation error they created in 2003.

With the civil service likely to be buried in Brexit law for a few years I think the future of transport could be somewhat neglected.

I walk at 6 km/h so speed on the footpath isn't an issue. It would be easy for them to add a leash that cuts the power similar to those used on outboard motors.

Getting it to go out the door before me while I hold it open might be? Don't know if they have put that feature in. Small steps and gutters don't look to be a problem. Flat battery with a full load of shopping any one...

I really like the idea. I'm sure I don't like the price! How about it is owned by the local shop and they lend/rent it to you to take your shopping home? Then it goes back to the shop on its own.

All these technical advances will be delayed as the law to control them and assure safety is sorted out. The same goes for driverless cars.

It's now being proposed that the way to deal with the legal issues is to grant "personhood" to such remotely operating vehicles. In that way guilt can be applied and transferred as necessary to those most responsible.
