Noisy Bafung Hub Motor

The noise varies according to which sensor/connection has failed. It can produce a very loud bang and faint shock if it first drops out at maximum power as when climbing, but that's only momentary. Otherwise it's just noise which can be loud, not usually vibration.

Hi Flecc,

When you say dropout do you mean that axle becomes unstable at top power uphill ie as if you where going ove a speed bump at high speed perhaps ?

When you say usually , what would be the exceptions i.e. where there was clear vibration emitting from the rest of frame ? i.e. I heard this is problem with handlebars or front motors for example .

thanks

No, not axle drop-out, I was referring to the electrical connection dropping out, which when under high load can cause the loudest noise, so loud that it sounds mechanical. I suspect that under that condition the sudden unbalancing of the phases causes the rotor to distort from it's circumferential path sufficiently for the rotating bar magnets to strike the stator poles. This is rare though, I've only experienced it once.

That can just be felt momentarily, but these faults do not produce any continuous vibration that I've felt.

The discomfort that heavy front hub motors can produce up into the handlebars is an unsprung weight issue, not a motor fault condition.

Hi Dave,

i only sell to companys as you maybe notice on my website ;-(

but my good friend, Ge Shijie (e-crazyman), from Shenzhen/China sell to you the controller no problem.

his mail-contact is ecrazyman@gmail.com

send him some regards from me and he tell you the price and delivertime

If you connect his controller to Bafang you must connect the phase
green to green
yellow to blue
blue to yellow

have a nice day

Thanks Frank, I have already been looking at his controllers for another project so I'll contact him about the sensorless controller as well.

I'm now quite sure this is what I have Flecc.
You may have noticed I'm going to pursue the sensorless controller suggestion and I have also sent for a Chinese battery for another project and I'll try this on the Torq as well. We may well get there yet!
Thanks. Dave
