News: Exeter launches pay-as-you-go electric bike hire

Exeter has this week seen the launch of self-service e-bike hire for the public from on-street docking stations.



Co-bikes are the organization spearheading the city’s new network of docking stations, each hosting 4-8 bikes. Rising to the challenge of sustainable connectivity for the ‘first/last mile’ within urban and commuter regions, the docking stations at Exeter Central train station, Exeter University and a Park and Ride will provide one-way transport for the last leg of some travellers’ journeys into the city.

I assume the rental points are like those for the old Boris Bike ones in London but with chargeing points.

I thought I saw something similar at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes this summer, but it was not obvious if they were electric bikes - the rear shroud design looked very similar. There seemed to be various drop off and pick up points over MK for those with the appropriate "pin" number or cell phone application - not quite sure, was pushing Mrs VV in her battery clip-on assisted wheelchair at the time
