Thanks for comments. I have seen pictures of the e-bike, what a magnificent looking machine.
I will keep in touch, have a few on ebay that I am interested in.

Rod,be careful of cheap e-bay product, you need to establish the life left in the battery and the cost of a replacement. Bosch replacement batteries cost £450 upwards, some cheap secondhand e-bikes can have nil value,if the replacement cost of the battery is more than the value of the rest of the bike.
Nobody suggested that you should spend £3-4k,such sales at this value tend to be a second or third generation buyer. But for what you want a £1000 budget may be more realistic.

You do get some nice bikes on Ebay. Beware of ones with big DD motors in the back and batteries hanging over the back wheel. They're virtually unrideable. That's if you can get them out of the shed/garage without flipping upside down.

I suspect you have already decided on a huge hub motor, but I will have one last try.

You don't have the budget to do it properly, and even if you did, you will end up with a dreadful contraption that is all but unusable.

There are a couple of sensible - and quite perky - woosh bikes on their second hand page which you might be able to get close to your budget.

Particularly if Hatti takes pity on you and decides to save you from yourself.

A legal rated bike 250w can do anything a good cyclist can do except top speed. They can peak at over 750watt pushing you up virtually any hill.
I know a 45 year old 120kg woman who passed a cyclist up hill on a discrete pedelec. When they met later he said panting ,please tell me that's electric?, higher power gets wasted moving air for very little increse in speed. 15 mph every where is quick. At 30mph you can suffer serious injuries. I had double break in my arm at 17mph!
Keeping legal saves a lot of hassle.
And still works well.
And at offers around £500 my kalhoff is an interesting option. But you need to try some bikes to see what they are like.

When I converted my 700c Norco hybrid with the 18a BBS kit it cost me about £650 once I had fitted all my extra's on. Lights , Mudguards, panniers and rack, airhorn, bell, stand etc, etc.
