Newbie looking for conversion kit recommendations; details in post.

Hi all, only found this forum this evening.

I'm a bike mechanic by trade, having jumped off the corporate ladder years ago.

My background is in restoring old VWs, and vintage bicycles in more recent years, having been a keen cyclist since my teens....a loooooong time ago!

Unfortunately, due to a back injury from a road accident years ago, and the onset of arthritis, I find it a struggle to cycle long distances these days...my 50th birthday is looming fast and I want to keep cycling as long as possible!

I have been thinking about electric bikes for the past while, and more recently about converting one of my old steel frame bikes.

Specifically, Bafang (who seem to very popular/common) mid drive 750w, but with a rear carrier/battery combo.

I'm not bothered about speed limits etc, but where I live in SE Ireland is extremely hilly in every direction, so plenty of pedal assistance and decent battery life is a must.

I'd be very grateful for any kit recommendations or experience you all might have?

I would be cautious about buying anything from the UK at present because of the Brexit difficulties.
I have purchased from PSWPower in Germany last March and they have delivered free (with no tax/duty) to Ireland within a little over a week. e.g.

They also do 48 v batteries.
I have also purchased from Yosepower and they deliver to Ireland reasonably quickly but charge for delivery. (28 euro I think)

It may be better (in term of bike balance) and workout cheaper to buy a frame mounted battery and separate alloy rack, as some of the steel battery racks are heavy.

The cheap Yosepower 48v battery is not up to the job for a 750w BBS02. You need a battery that can give at least 20 amps continuously.
