I would think very carefully about that. With the electrics working, most of the time it will be OK, you probably wont notice the lack of gears, unless there are steep hills.

However, its not unknown for the electric part of an eBike to break down and if this happens some distance from your Motorhome the rider will really appreciate the availability of gears to get them back, if a little slower than normal.

The CVT is only an extra couple of kgs and the benefits are not to be overlooked.
Isn't it a pitty we don't all just get along without the need to resort to be littling someone who is only asking for help and advice, the skinny tyres won't appeal to my wife and this is just personal choice which we all have.

I'm trying to understand what you mean by your CVT. Are you talking about the Xiongda two speed hub-motor, the 2-speed auto-change hub gears or the Schlumf 2-speed chainwheel? If you swap a rear hub-motor for 2-speed gears, you have no motor. The 2-speed hub-motor doesn't change the pedalling gears. It just does an internal change to produce more torque at low speed. It has a special controller to look after that, and it doesn't offer any advantage over a correctly chosen hub-motor system except in special circumstances, and it's difficult to fit. As i said earlier, you're suffering from too much research. just get something like a couple of these. Try them for a bit, then you'll know what you want to improve or not. You'll be able to sell them for a good price if you don't like them, so you won't lose much. When I'm out about, I see loads of people on bikes like this and they all see to be very happy. Every part is standard, easy to get and cheap, especially the battery, which you can upgrade to any size you want.

Test riding as many possibles as I could worked really well for me, and has meant that I still really like the bikes I finally bought. It also showed me that the bike I thought I was going to really like was actually not for me when I rode it and another quite different one which I had not short listed turned out to be the bike I liked the best and ended up buying.
