That would be fine but it is not happening. The aficionados of these electric motorbikes are getting more brazen and calling anyone who objects to there recommendations of 2000watt 40mph bikes and the like, as Old men, Killjoys, get of your soap box etc....

I can tell you something as long as they promote, I and a few others will voraciously object. Not for our own satisfaction, but for the casual visitor who will get completely the wrong idea from these unnecessary arguments and counter arguments.

Another forum, 2 clicks away initiated something like "High Speed Bikes" as an off road tag is confusing IMO, and does off road riders a disservice. It would need a sub heading laying out the pros and cons and legal situation

We are considering splitting the discussion of 'off-road' bikes and kits away from the main forum into its own sub-forum.

Thoughts please....
I like to think of the forum as a pub for e-bikers. Each group may be at different ends of the bar but I’m sure there are many of us in the middle who enjoy hearing both sides of any argument. If you put each end in separate bars there would be no argument, therefore far less entertainment, and we would risk spilling our drinks running between them.

At the risk of being a pedant, show me a post where someone has recommended a 2000watt 40mph ebike? I think you're imagining things. In fact - I think the guy that wanted to do 60mph on his recumbent drew universal condemnation.

Simple answer:

The mini analogy does not really work IMO. You are discussing similar types of motor vehicles so no comparison to what is going on here...

The conversations I object to are those that casually discuss electric motorbikes on an e bike form..the irony being they would be better placed on a motor vehicle forum.

Perfect example yesterday on Thorn Raven build thread, about adding a legal 250 watt kit to a really interesting bike, last contribution was the following:

"Why did you feel the need to change the carbon fork? They are fines for low powered kits - approx 750w or below."

So a 750 watt motor is considered low powered? Again as I stated earlier. To my mind these kind or irresponsible and glib postings give out the wrong signals to anyone looking in for advice.. Share

I find that "simple answer" quite pathetic really. It sounds to me as if you seek to deny me, or perhaps any member you disagree with, the right to free speech. Surely I can like or dislike anything I want?

Eddie made a fair point in as much as there are times when the forum is swamped by postings about illegal machines which are, and there's no getting away from it, not ebikes at all. They are illegal as bikes and as some members here have no interest in such stuff, the webmaster very reasonably asked for some thoughts on whether a separate section might be a good idea.

Like many others who read this forum, I also look at ES which I think is a far more appropriate vehicle for discussing the weird and wonderful in the world of electrically-driven machines. It has its merits, particularly as it's global, many of its contributors unfettered by UK or EU legislation. I just wish those who wish to discuss those unregistered, untaxed electric motorbikes on here would migrate their tales to that forum and limit their contributions here to compliant ebikes which everyone can enjoy.

If our legislation on ebikes should be changed in the future, I shall be delighted for those people who wish to ride faster, more powerful machines. I may buy or build one myself. I suspect however, that the same people who break the law now will break the law then too. Where to draw the line? It's simple; the regulations dictate what the limits are and I'm more than happy to conform with that law, as I am with all the laws of this country.

Ridicule me if you will but that's my position and I just wish the webmaster here shared my view but he, of course, is free to choose what he does, as are you.

Exactly.....love that analogy, I do feel like Im popping into my local at night, glass of rose' to hand, bit of banter, bit of info, bit of a laugh, bit of high blood pressure occasionally......but good fun all the same, and always sure of a comfy seat :D

I'm not sure why you chose to mention my name as all I contributed to this thread was a very succinct remark to the OP, agreeing that I though his idea to consider a separate section was good.

Detailed answer:

The reply was to mearly clarified why I included you.

I thought it might be rude to exculde you as you had issued a "like" as I think you know my view is not to exclude anyone. Indeed, I previously made this known when you were banned.
If my simple answer gave you the impression you described then I unreservedly apologise.
