Hello,

I have recently joined this forum, so just a quick hello from us.
Today my wife and I took delivery of our first e-bikes, I have recently retired early (age 58) and wanted to get out more but our unassisted bikes are a bit too much for us at the moment so I thought we could go further on e-bikes.

I have a BH Evo 27.5 and my wife has an Orbea Keram comfort 10, we tried several others before settling on these two, I plan to get out on our first ride tomorrow, not too far just to get accustomed to the e-bike experience.

There seems to be a wealth of knowledge on here, we can also share our experience as new riders too...
hoping to get a bit more fit and get back to the weight/fitness when we rode regularly.

Any advise/knowledge would be greatly received !

regards

Dave

Welcome Dave,

I'm sure you'll both love it, it's a joy to get out and about without being out of breath or having badly aching muscles.

My first few rides (a couple of months ago) were a bit wobbly while I got used to my bike. Pulling away from junctions was also a bit awkward. But I live close to a community centre which has a nice flat car park, so I rode around that for an hour on a Sunday afternoon. Did turns and figure eights to get a feel for the turning circle, some slow stops and faster stops to get used to the brakes etc. I also found my saddle height was slightly too high and a few other minor tweaks. So definitely worth doing a few test rides away from any traffic.

Enjoy!

Hello and welcome! Hope you both enjoy your new bikes - sounds like you made careful choices to find something to suit so you should be well placed to make the most of it from the get-go. Fingers crossed you have calmer weather for your first ride out than we have here today (where it's blowing a hoolie!)

Thanks for the replies, had a nice ride over to the lakes today not very far but still felt like we had done some work.
The E-bikes make it so much easier, really enjoyed our first trip out, one of my lads came on his normal bike almost killed him!despite being only 20 years old. hopefully we will all get better as time goes by.

Attached a couple of pics of the bikes....

Actually no, he was laying in a heap at the first hill after 1mile !, to be fair so would I be if I was on a normal bike.
Went out again today and he was better, he's not been on a bike for 2-3 years but i'm sure that he will get rapidly better.

Nice looking bikes you have I'm new to e-bikes too and like you, bought one to get my 'bike legs' back. Have had mine for a few weeks and have loved every trip out so far.

Bought it as a commuter, but not ventured that far yet. We don't have many cycle lanes around me so I'm building my confidence to handle commuter traffic slowly.

Enjoy your rides.
