New Member, New to E-bikes, on the edge of buying.

Hi Folks,

I have been interested and looking to convert my Focus Mountain bike for a while now. I have been reading up on the BBS02B and I think I am about to hit the buy button.

I think I would have preferred the BBS02B 250W but as Brighton Bikes have no stock to sell I will have to go with the 500w version

Question: Can I lower the Amperage from the default 25A?

also, would it be better to get a 17ah battery? (woosh dont have the option as far as I can see in a package, so possibly would be splitting up the purchases), I would like to go further afield than my commuting, say 40 miles with some decent hills thrown in, I do intend on using some of my own steam as well.

Ideal Cruising speed (clear runs on the road / clear cycle path etc) would be slightly higher than the prescribed 15mph maybe 20mph would this or either of the above mentioned kits allow for this after some tweaking?

any advise, tips or general wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome.
The amp limit on the BBS02 can be lowered using a programming cable and laptop.
There are folks in your area that can help and if you need it doing after purchase send me a message.
Personally I would say go for the biggest battery you can afford as long as it will fit in your frame as you will find as time goes on you will want to go further.
I started with a 16Ah battery and now have 64Ah but thats a bit extreme as I often do 100 mile+ rides.

Brilliant! Many thanks, that is great news, Yeah I'm definitely leaning towards the 17ah size of battery, the frame on the focus - black forest 4.0 triangle is pretty generous so fingers crossed there.

I may get in touch with woosh about a 17ah battery for the motor as a kit and see if and when stock is available.

If you've got a decent triangle size, you could go this route. Get these guys to make a triangle bag:

Then get Jimmy at Isat international to see what size battery he can fit in it. I'm guessing quite big.

Thanks for the tip on alkit, I think in the shorter term I would be happy with the standard 17ah battery, I may even be ok with the 15Ah the kit comes with, I would have the opportunity to charge if it looks like it might not get me home, the commute is only 7 miles each way, the return leg is a steady climb all the way with some steeper sections and the odd flat. If i get the bug to go further in my time off then I may have to look at something like you suggested.

Good choice with Woosh. UK based with expert backup. Too many buyers end up with unreturnable snagged up stuff from china all for the sake of a few pounds. Jimmy at BGA is a top man. Eclipse Bikes in your own backyard are up there with the very best best for Kits and Batteries. Go for the 750 w motor with the 48v Samsung 30q cell battery and you will have a nice hot shot conversion. Naughty but nice.

Id def go for as big a batt as poss.I deregulated the speed restriction on my bbs01 350w . At 14 stone on my 22kg mountain bike,I can just about squeeze 30 miles max with some hills out of a 17.4 ah batt .Pas 4 mostly , Pas 5 for hills (pas 1 -5). Soon as u spending some time at speeds of 17 - 21 mph with motor assistance ,the range drops off. Whats the point._.or fun in using an ebike on low Pas .Dont know how people claim ranges of 40 +miles from 10ah batteries??Prob have a slim waist, alight road bike an use low Pas all the time .

Thats 30 miles derestricted.If u going to use a 500watt 48v unrestricted at 20mph.I doubt u get much more than 18miles on high Pas from a 17.4ah batt

I love cycling trevormonty.I still find u have to put in plenty of effort especially on steeper hills with these bbs motors. Just with my slightly arthritic 50 year old knees its made cycling a pleasure again.
