Hi, I'm a bit new to this but here goes. I recently bought an electric bike on ebay, It is 2 years old but the seller told me that it had only done about 1 mile since new and looking at the bike it was spotless and looked in great condition. The battery was fully charged up and I was using it for a couple of days and decided to charge it up. I found to my disappointment that the battery would not charge. The bike is an E-Life Explorer with 20" wheels and it's the type which folds up.
I ma having real trouble locating a new battery for this bike. It's a 36V/8.8Ah battery which fits vertically behind the seat post. Does anyonre know where I can purchase a new battery or if someone has one for sale. many thanks

The pit falls of buying a little used ebike, the battery is at the heart of the bike and one needs to know the replacement cost before buying any bike. Once that is known it doesn't matter what the bike age it will need to taken into consideration of the asking price when buying.
Your battery might be ok but will need someone with good knowledge of how to get it to work again, it may not be totally scrap and may just need rebalancing of low voltage cell groups to allow it to charge properly again. Usually this is a diy route with a knowledgeable enthusiast who knows what he/she is doing. Most pro repairers will likely just recell with new ones.

One can only know if the battery is fully charged by using a volt meter on the discharge connector to read the actual battery voltage, the likely hood is that the battery doesn't charge because of lack of use and might be because a cell group has drained below a minimum voltage level of about 3v - 3.2v. The battery will have a BMS (Battery Management System) a pcb board that will temporary shut down if it detects an issue, these can be rectified with someone with the knowledge and now how. The problem isn't uncommon on little used bikes where the battery has been unused or dormant for a while.

Posting the area of the country you live in might get a response from someone with knowledge if they live nearby ?

If you are a practical person and competent at taking things apart / putting things together then with a £5 multi meter you should be able to simply take some battery readings with easy to follow instructions form us on the forum.
The world of ebike batteries might seem to be technical for most but in reality isn't if you are only taking voltage readings.
Over the years many have got their batteries working again for little cost, the only thing needed is some peace and time to carry out tests as advised by members on here. £5 and 10/15mins of taking readings might save you a coupe of hundred £££'s on buying a new battery, at the least you may be able to resurrect the battery to use as a range extender if it has lost some of it's capacity.

There's nothing wrong with your battery if you were able to use it for a couple of days. Some batteries need to be switched on to charge. If that's not it, get a voltmeter to measure the charger and battery, then you'll know where to look for the cause. Don't look at new batteries or chargers yet. It's probably something simple.

It still amazes me just how often people buy such bikes without first doing some simple, easy and cheap, web research, or joining an e-bike forum, and asking some questions before buying ANYTHING, new or not!
Its the same here in Germany, only the language is different"
