Thanks for all the advice and guidance, peeps. It's been really helpful in making me think about my requirements more clearly (and thanks for the link to the swindon bike shop Bob, opened up a few other options to look at). 
As a result I'm now researching conventional bikes to add conversion kits to, as a comparison... so, any conversion kit experiences out there?
