It's this one. 36v 270rpm:
Bafang 36V500W CST Rear Driving Hub Motor - BMSBATTERY
It will hold 20mph on the flat. Maximum speed on the road is about 22mph. It works out at about £210 delivered, and you probably won't have to pay duty.

The 500w rear 36v BPM code 13 has exactly the same speed and power, and for the same money, you get the whole kit with the motor built into a wheel.

I can't see it being any safer on ice. Your more likely to high-side, which is more dangerous than the low-side you get when you lose traction with the front.

currently got a 8 fun QSWXK in a 700 rim that does 21mph@48v on flat but no balls up hill, well not enough.dont want to go faster.
would 48v and the 270 rpm take the edge of climbing performance.
i was only going 10 mph riding on the pavement when i hit small patch of black ice , front wheel accelerated and of it went,im pretty sure i wouldnt have fallen of if it was rear wheel skid.

The 36v 270 rpm CST will do about 28mph with 48v. Climbing will be about the same. You'll use a lot more battery unless you have a well-disciplined throttle hand.

The 201 rpm 36v BPM will do about 24mph with 48v and it'll climb like a good'n. Also it'll use a lot less battery because it'll be working at higher efficiency.

My 350w one is much slower even though it's supposed to be 270rpm.

I've read some stories of the more powerful motors breaking the drop-outs in the forks.

Wouldn't a high-torque motor be better fitted in the rear wheel?

Yes, ideally.

You will notice I have now mounted a front light which has got a home made bracket. This works perfect in this area of the stem, I have painted the bracket to match the bike. I have painted my drinks bottle with a tin of spray paint. Also in this latest photo you will see that I have put a modified mirror on the bike.

Hi Steve, just looking at the motor and battery on your bike and was hoping to pick your brain, as I've just ordered a similar setup.

I was wondering how you secured the battery and if possible have any pics?
Is your motor 48 or 36v, same question to the battery?

Lastly have you tested it off road yet?

Many thanks and apologies for the thread hi-jack
