I like that. I can see it'd be especially useful if you're trying to adapt/tweak settings whilst out on a ride - much quicker that twiddle, get home to re-twiddle, ride out, home to twiddle again.

I've just today bought a new portable fridge/freezer for my Transporter "Cycle-touring" van to keep the beers and ice-cream cool. That comes with an App too. Why does everything need to come with an App nowadays, and especially why do you need an App for a fridge?

I do like useful apps, but so many seem totally pointless "bloatware" to me.

In some cases the app will just be an irrelevant side-thingy.

In others cases, the app will become broken by some OS changes, and what should be a perfect fridge will never work again.

As I read it, the BBS Speeed App just needs a USB/JT cable to interface with the bike. My fridge has Bluetooth though so I can see on my 'phone what temperature my Beers are at.

My Fiido D11 folding e-bike arrived yesterday too: Bundled in the box is a free cable lock (that could be cut in seconds) with alarm... yup, and the obligatory Bluetooth App to relay to my 'phone if the alarm has gone off. Logically, what is the point? The MAXIMUM range of Bluetooth is 100m - realistically far less than that... and you can audibly hear the alarm well beyond that.

A Bluetooth App for the e-bike itself would be far more useful... to change parameters, to tally trip/total mileage, min/max speed on your last ride, remaining battery, maybe even help identify basic service/electric/electronic faults etc etc? It would be so cheap and easy to do... and USEFUL!

OK, will try a usb A to USB C converter with my programming lead to connect the phone. If it works as well as the windows app that would mean I don't need to use a pc. I use a Chromebook myself and have to borrow the pc off swmbo.

The description says:

And the screenshot outlines a few options: I read it that the normal USB serial adaptor to Julet should work with a USB C adaptor as you say. I'll try it too when I get a chance.

Tried connecting, no Joy, it on any finding the motor. Nothing happens with battery, it tries when battery is removed. The USB settings only option is for the other device to control the usb port.
I have a Google pixel 5 , the usb to Juliet lead works ok with a pc. Not sure what to try next.

That's a shame. I have the serial lead and PC software like you (it works with my MaxDrive bike). My phone is Android 10 with USB C. Trouble is that bike is at my other house, so I can't try it for a few weeks yet.

My ebay cheapo lead uses a RobotDyn 340G serial chip, while ebikebatteries use a Prolific chip in their lead. I'm not sure if that's relevant for compatibility (why would the App make a point of listing compatible chips otherwise), but maybe that's a problem? Maybe the App is still too new and has other compatibility/bug issues?

I'm using the programming lead from Torquetech (no idea which chip that is) and an Android 10 phone (Motorola One), with a USB to USB-C adapter. Battery switched on.

Ordered one of those. I was using a cheaper one, not a clue what chip. It will be worth it if it works.

Tested this out with my cable, which has a CH340G USB to serial converter and it works a treat on my Pixel 3A. This is the cable:

Used the little adapter that came with my phone, which is a USB A to USB C. As members have already mentioned, really handy for tweaking parameters on the road.

Thought I would give the app a proper 'real world' test today, instead of playing with it in my shed like yesterday.

As I always have my phone with me on rides anyway, all I needed to take extra was the programming cable and the OTG adapter. Stopped, changed a few parameters, rode a little, stopped, changed some different parameters, rode again. Easy enough!

The app does a lovely job of emulating the Windows based software and it's certainly handier than lugging a laptop around. Or program, test ride, back to shed, program, test ride etc.

As I mentioned, it works great on a Pixel 3A with Android 11. Hopefully, as more and more forum members test this app out, we can compile a list of compatible phones. Although, I wouldn't expect there to be any problems with a modern Android phone and latest Android software.

New lead arrived, the torquetech one replete with twinkly lights, connected in a trice. Brilliant. Pixel 5 running Android 11, but just signed up for Android 12 beta, might give that a try too.
