I've not tried them myself but a couple of potential issues seem apparent. They are claiming 'left over stock'. As such, I wonder how long they have been sitting around. In addition, they are only offering a 3 month warranty and their reason for this is because they are not making a profit from it! Sounds a tad dodgy to me. The seller does have seemingly good feedback, but I think it would be a bit of a 'punt'. At £250, I would expect a one year warranty at least.

My battery is now 4 years old and still going. It's lost around 30% of its capacity but that's still more than 10 a/h left. I guess I'll be looking at a new battery around this time next year. I'm hoping that by then we will have 25 a/hour batteries that last for years and only cost £15. :D

My battery is similar to yours, maybe a bit younger so I thought I would start to research a bit. I think the new ones fro Freego are £500 plus. Have to say that I am a bit wary of them and always use the approach that if something seems to good to be true it probably is. However someone must have used them, and they may be genuine. In the meantime I will continue to look round, and probably hang on for that £15 battery(lol)

Why not get your existing batteries re-celled ? My 5 year old Batribike battery was sent to London last Thursday and today Monday, I received a call to say it was ready . The new batteries are Samsung INR-18650-29E which will now give me 11.6Ah instead of the original 8Ah . They will require a new charger which is in the price , as is the collection and re-delivery .

I may be wrong, but I believe the seller - H7 Engineering - used to part own Oxygen ebikes, before the current management took over.

If that's correct, the story about left over stock could be true.

Sounds like a plan RR. Would you share the details of what firm you used. What sort of costs are involved? Do they change the BMS or just the cells?

The seller and batteries are genuine, H7 Eng is the parent company that imports and markets the Oxydrive kits as well as a couple of other companies, one sells trikes/cargo bikes. The batteries may well be unused stock but if it was a type I was after/needed for 250 I would have taken a punt. Andrew is the Oxydrive /H7 boss and does post on here now and then.

Eaglerider I came across the Company on Ebay and downloaded 14 pages of really interesting information on batteries on their listing . They are Insat International , Unit 1A , Gateway Mews , Bounds Green , London , N11 2UT Tel : 0208 361 1790 . Jimmy is the Boss there and they are a nice Company to deal with . The BMS has been changed , new charger , new Cells and carriage both ways arranged by them with UPS , all for £220 .
If you google - batteries electric bikes on Ebay their listing shows Insat Li-NMC eBike Battery Electric and the seller is Insat .

This is the company I bought from. I received the wrong battery first of all, but they were quick to put that right. The lead that came with the charger had an un-fused, moulded plug on it. Not sure that was legal, but I changed it for a fused lead. I get sparks when I connect the charger. I have done 800 miles over a few months, and it's still going. It was 15ah for £220. The longest run I've done is thirty miles with two lights still showing on the top of the battery.

Well my original 8Ah battery did 33 miles when new 5 years ago , so I`m hoping for better with the re-celled 11.6 Ah capacity one . The new charger is a lot smaller and takes longer to charge to get the `green`. The battery pack is now noticeably lighter too . The charging plug is a strange one and I had to look on the internet to identify it , it`s a 16 mm threaded aviation plug with a locking ring which is redundant in the case of the Batribike set-up . The Company that re-celled were excellent to deal with both in their communications and speed of doing the conversion . As I was in the fifth year of ownership of the Ebike I was a bit anxious as to what to do about the battery .The latest Ebikes are 36V , 250 Watt Motors and at least 10Ah Capacity batteries , whereas mine is 24V , 200 Watt Motor and 8Ah .
The latest Batribike batteries are an eye watering £385 and if I tried to order one to suit my old model it could have been on the shelf for years , hence the plan to re-cell seemed the safest option . I`m glad I looked on Ebay to find this Company and relieved to find they are very nice to deal with and possessing good technical knowledge of batteries , not merely selling them .

Yes Tom I would certainly recommend Insat . With the varying methods of mounting batteries , re-celling in the future might be the only way of keeping on the road, as Ebikes aren`t quite throw away yet . Take my Batribike Folder , my battery is mounted behind the seat tube with a front hub motor , the following model had a battery on the carrier with a rear motor and the latest model is back to the battery behind the seat tube still with a rear motor . That`s just one model from one Company , think of all the variations with all the other Suppliers . Whatever happened to standardisation ?
