This the bike I am thinking of converting. It does need a new bottom bracket and new brakes and a new chain and tyres since its done 3467 miles according to my cycle computer which I am amazed the batteries still work. I will need to fit the battery rack on the rear as I want to fit panniers too. The tyres will probably be more road type too. Not sure what size wheels they are but assume they are 700c.
Hi Waj,

The wheel size of your Claude Butler Rock is 26".

If you decide to take the conversion route, we have compatible front or rear eZee kits.

Thanks for the info. I do prefer to buy from the UK but have bought loads of electronic goods direct from china in the past so not put off doing so if it saves money.

The problem with the uk kits so far is they are not slightly more expensive but double price plus.

Hi Waj,

I agree UK sourced kits are more expensive, but you also need to factor in delivey costs, import duty, VAT and less favourable warranty aragements when buying direct from China.

Of course if you can save money and be happy with what you have bought, why not;)

But even when you factor in all those you can buy 2 kits for the same price of one which helps cover warranty issues. Buying direct you still have to pay vat, duty and delivery but not the added massive amounts on top. We are ripped off with everything in the UK as it is as we all already know.

I think the best value items are complete bikes such as the Kudos range, especially the King at under £900 all in especially considering the components cost.

Hi again Waj,

I don't know what numbers you are coming up with, but eZee kits are £995 including delivery and 2 year warranty, I would be surprised if you can get 2 equivalent kits for that money?

I agree the Kudos bikes offer good value for money, we also have similar bikes at a similar price;)

The battery and 500w kits mentioned here will be under 500 even after taxes so basing it on that. Though no real warranty I suppose.

I think a complete bike at around 1k will be much better value than conversion in my case by the look of the UK kit prices.

I am in Leeds so may be a little far. That seems good value too. I am not going to be in a position to purchase one until 1st week in April at the moment and I also need to find out about the cycle to work scheme at my new job so see if its worth while or better to buy out right etc.

Simon.

HI Its a Technium privilege 7-speed sold by wiggle same spec (ish) as a kalkhoff agattu.David
Just like to say thanks to Dave for letting me try his bike. I was very impressed and feel I will have to get a crank drive due to these Yorkshire hills. All I need to decide on is a budget and type etc.

Hello waj1234,

Goodluck with your choice.
The new Woosh CD looks excellent value.
My hub drive Bearprint cost £1200, if starting out now I would go for the Woosh crank drive or maybe the Kudos City with Alfine hub gears and enclosed chain for easier maintenance.
I commute a 26 mile round trip 5 days a week through all weather and in 2 years and 4 months have just brought up 12,000 miles of commuting.
That represents a lot of petrol money saved and I still look forward to the trip in and back from work - I love it!
You have to factor in other costs as well, wet and cold weather gear, maintenance, wear and tear replacement parts, etc.
The most expensive replacement part is the battery and both Woosh and Kudos seem well catered for there.
I am the same height as you and was 55 last week, Ebiking has definitely helped my fitness, weight and circulation particularly in my legs.
I am sure once you have got the Ebike habit you won't regret it! :)

Best wishes,
Barry.

Hi Barry.

Not sure I have the mental strength to do a 26 mile commute or do it in any weather but if I can manage 60% of my total commute it will still be worth it.

I keep thinking yes get one then maybe a petrol scooter then I am back in my car again lol. I think I will get one as I need to be fit again. I have put around 3 stone on in last 4 years from doing nothing and that cannot continue. I wish to be around 11 stone again and feel healthy so an e bike will give me the push needed as otherwise I will just jump in the car.

So its not just about saving money as fitness is important too. I think a lot of it is in the head especially as you get more out of shape as you tend to feel less and less bothered to exercise.

The whoosh cd does seem very good value for money and for me it seems more than enough to spend on my first bike to see if it gets the use etc.
